I'm convinced that my hair just doesn't work with a curling iron. I can curl other peoples hair pretty well but on myself, it looks atrocious.

Re: I don't know how to use a curling iron!!!!

I finally figured it out. I have fairly think hair that doesn't hold a curl well. I work with a small barrel. I clamp at the bottom and roll up in small pieces. I roll one up, the next part under, and so on. It's usually curlier then I want when it's all done, but I know my hair will weigh it down. I usually spray the crap out of it and don't mess with it until I'm ready to leave. Then I will loosen or add curls as needed.

I am not great at it, but I do know how to avoid the crimp. It is hard to explain with out visual aids. Chat Icon

You have to wrap the hair in the direction you are going to curl it. When you clampdown, slowly start to curl the hair you way want it about a quarter of a turn, and watch the hair at the edge of the clamp to see if the hair is bending back. If you aren't sure, curl it the other way and you should be able to tell the difference.
Also, leave the very end of your hair out of the iron.

This video explains it better than I can.

Took me forever and a about 1,000 you tube vidoes, but finally I can do it easily and quickly. Try watching some of the you tube clips on it.
