I don’t know if you remember me posting a while back about my friend’s daughter who was sick…

She has gone through many tests and they finally found out what is wrong with her. She unfortunately will be going through chemotherapy. Please read below. If anyone can help in any way please fm me. Your help, thoughts and prayers are great appreciated.

“Hello everyone. Please take the time to read this email and pass it along to anyone you think would like to come. Thanks alot.

Teresa & Johnny

On August 22, 2009, I will be hosting the “Bowling for Histiocytosis Research” fundraiser at East Islip Lanes in East Islip, New York. All proceeds raised will go to the Histiocytosis Association of America. The Histiocytosis Association of America is the only non-profit organization dedicated to providing support and education to patients and families dealing with histiocytic disorders in the United States. The HAA also provides funding for numerous research grants in hopes of funding better treatment options and a cure for this rare blood disease.

Histiocytosis is a rare blood disease that has no known cause or cure yet that affects the lives of approximately 1 in 200,000 children and 1 in 560,000 adults each year. It can affect the skin, bones, organs and/or central nervous system. The disease can cause tumors to form, most frequently in the bones. In cases where there is whole body involvement histiocytosis can be life threatening. Current treatments include steroids, chemotherapy and radiation.

This fundraiser will honor our daughter, Taylor, who has been undergoing extensive testing for this rare disease. We have spent many hours at Schneider’s Children’s Hospital for medical visits, bone scans, MRI’s, x-rays, blood work and a biopsy. This has significantly impacted her life, but through everything she has been extremely strong. Thankfully her doctors feel we are one step ahead of the disease and she is still going through more testing to get a definitive diagnosis.

I would like to ask for your help in supporting this cause. You can help by donating gift certificates, products or services that we will use to raffle of the night of the fundraiser. If you would rather make a monetary donation that would also be greatly appreciated. If you would like to donate something please complete the enclosed gift form and send it with your donation to 47 Sherwood Drive, East Islip, NY, 11730. Your donation will be fully tax deductible; receipts will be issued directly by the Histiocytosis Association of America, Federal Tax ID# 22-2827069. If you would like to purchase tickets to attend the moonlight bowling fundraiser please contact me. Tickets are $20 each and include 2 games of bowling with DJ, shoe rental, soda and hot buffet.

As you consider joining us in our fight against histiocytosis, please take into account that many diseases and disorders receive substantial funding from public and private sources; unfortunately histiocytosis is not one of them. Histiocytosis can cause just as much suffering but because it is so rare, it receives no government funding for research into the cause and cure.

I look forward to hearing from you in the upcoming weeks. It is my hope that, with your help, we can raise the money needed to help fund studies for research, and ultimately find a case and cure for this terrible disease.”
