I don't know what stores are thinking when putting security buttons on clothes

This morning I found a gorgeous top at Forever 21, they only had 2 in my size, so I grabbed one and went to pay, but just before I handed the sales person my money I asked her to let me check the top, and sure enough there was a big hole on the back of it, by the neck line. I went to grab another one , but it had the button in the same spot so I didn't even bother, a girl behind me said she had the same issue at Macys few days ago and she doesn't understand how this keeps happening..... anyway , I walked out sad without a shirt ...
So many times I have returned, exchanged or decided not to buy something (mostly happens with tops and dresses) bc it had a big hole in it from where the security button was . There have also been times when I have kept an item even though it had a hole ,only to find out that the hole got even bigger after the item was washed....
I don't get it, why won't they put buttons so they don't leave marks/holes like that, especially on certain materials. I mean I know it's all about security and all that, but still...

I had the same thing just yesterday. I think that some employees are better at placing them than others. When I worked retail a long time ago, I was so careful when attaching them.

that is so annoying especially when you've found something nice. idk why they wouldn't just put the security button on the labels of the clothing...

because someone could just cut the label and walk off with the garment.

yes, this is why....
but there are areas where could put them on without making a hole in or damaging the fabric, like a seam line or something.

They obviously don't know what they are doing. When we used to use those we were instructed to put it through the seam of the merchandise for this exact reason...

Did you try looking on Forever21's website? Maybe they will have the shirt there and you can order it. Then it shouldnt be a problem. Old Navy has their security tages built INTO the tags on the tops/jeans. So smart! Not like those other annoying PITA'S! I worked in retail for a good part of my teenage years and I can't tell you how many times I fought to get those darn things off the clothes! Chat Icon

Exactly what I was going to say. They have to make sure it's in a spot where if you ripped it off or the ink came out, it would ruin the garment.
