I don't know what to do about Lauren's excema...
She was diagnosed almost 2 weeks ago with excema, they gave me hydrocortisone creme to rub all over her back and then to rub Eucerine on top of it butnot to use the hydrocortisone for more than 10 days. The excema did clear up and her skin looked great but last night it came back worse, the same spots where it was before are back and are more scaly and now it down her arms and working it's way under her arm pits, i don't know what to do....should i call the ped or use the creme again but they told to onlyuse it for 10 days which i did it came back after a few days of stopping the cream....

I would definitely call the pediatrician. Have you taken her to a dermatologist? DD was just diagnosed this week and we went to a derm after going to the ped twice and being misdiagnosed. We are using desidone (RX) and eucerin. The prescription seems to be working after only two days. GL!

Are you running a humidifier in her room at night? That helps my DD, along with fragrance free EVERYTHING (detergent, shampoo, body wash, lotion, sunscreen, etc). How often are you bathing her?

Re: I don't know what to do about Lauren's excema...
My cousins DS had horrible excema all over when he was born. He is 2 now and it's almost all gone. He is very sensitive to many foods, so they really watch what he eats (reading labels, etc.) You will have to use products for sensitive skin/fragrance free - including laundry detergent - no dryer sheets, etc. He's outgrowing it, so your DD probably will also.

Re: I don't know what to do about Lauren's excema...
Our ped derm recommended:
Bath every day(this helps to keep staph down so when they get breakouts and scratch they don't get staph infections
Bleach baths 2 times a week(1 cup of bleach to a whole tub-the large tub not baby tub...we never did this
Ceravae cream after bath within 3 minutes so skin is still damp
Presciption cream-we use desonid on his face as needed and Lydex on his body.
I apply the creavae morning and night and that does reallly good job of keeping it away or from flaring
Run himidifier

Some good sugg on this post:
another excema thread
I added my 2 cents in that post! Hopefully it will help! It will come and go. I have had it all my life and usually just use my med cream when I get a bad breakout otherwise just lotion lotion lotion!

Re: I don't know what to do about Lauren's excema...
DS has excezma on the sides of his face and sometimes a little on his chest. We tried hydrocortizone for a while - at first it cleared it right up, then it came back really bad.
The ped gave us some sort of oil type thing to put on it - it came with a little water sprayer and we have to moisten the skin and then spread a very thin layer of the oil on. I believe the ped said it’s some type of steroid (which I hadn’t wanted to use, but it was making him so miserable – and he’d scratch himself all the time.) After a few days it looked great and has been really good most of the time now. When I see it starting to flair up again, I just use a little b/f bed and it’s usually gone in the morning. I can check when I go home to tell you what it’s called if you want.
The Dr. also said we shouldn’t bathe him too often and only use Cetaphil since it’s much less drying. I try to put Aquafor on him as well to help keep it from coming back.

Re: I don't know what to do about Lauren's excema...
I would call the ped and see if you can do another round of the hydrocortizone cream.
Here's my suggestion... go to Rite Aid or Walgreens or CVS and buy CeraVe moisturizing lotion. (you may have to ask the pharmacist about it if you can't find it in the lotion aisle) The bottle with the pump will cost you like $15, but it is awesome.
You want to get religious about using it. So once the eczema clears up, start using the CeraVe lotion every day. Even when it is gone, keep using the cream. I have found that it helps keep the eczema from flaring up. Good luck!

Ask about allergy testing too. Sometimes Excema is a result of a milk/dairy allergy.

call a pediatric dermatologist for sure. I bought DS to see Pediatric Dermatolgy Associates in New Hyde Park and they were great. his eczema is now under control. 2001 Marcus Ave, New Hyde Park 516 352-6151

Re: I don't know what to do about Lauren's excema...
DD has excema as well. She scratches until she bleeds At her 3 mo appt. DR recommend giving less baths and to use ivory soap instead of the J&J. We were also told to use A&D ointment (it didn't really help and smelled gross). NExt we tried aquaphor which helped for about 1-2 weeks. Now we are on to palmer's cocoa butter. My younger cousin had severe excema and his parents didnt want to use the steroid creme. They said this was the only thing that helped and so far its helping DD. (it went away about an hour after i applied it!)

I use the same practice...I see Dr. Hayman when he is in Stony Brook one day a week if I can, but I have made the trip to New Hyde Park also...he is wonderful and has worked wonders with DD's eczema

Aveeno has a baby oatmeal bath that helps DS tremendously. He gets it behind his knees and sids of his thighs and arm....only little spots but I swear by this stuff.
