I don't know what to make of this Updated-
I am VERY patient.
I work with special ed all day and I never ever yell, or lose my patience, EVER. I consider it a gift, really.
Well, yesterday, it wasn't a student... but it was a teacher who provoked me to the point of totally losing it.
He was rude to me but instead of backing away and being the "bigger person" I stooped down to his miserable level. I know that I should have chalked it up to him being NUTS and just smiled and nodded.... but at the end of the school day after smiling at nodding for 7 hours, I had ENOUGH.
Well, word got out about my loose fuse and now I'm totally ashamed. The worst part is, THE OTHER TEACHER PROVOKED ME and I fell for it. I don't want to give all the details, but all I will say is. .. I don't know how widespread this is, but is there any way to redeem myself?
Apologizing isn't an option because the other teacher was more at fault and HE should be apologizing to ME! But still, is there any way to redeem what was once a very peaceful, calm, smiley, innocent reputation? It was SO uncharacteristic of me.
UPDATE**********
Thanks for all your input It made me feel better before returning to school. You were all right- not only did people not "hold it against me", but they also laughed when they heard about it
It was definitely a learning experience though. If I see another teacher is making me heated, I'll try harder to bite my lip until I get home to write about it on LIF

Re: I don't know what to make of this
Honestly, if you were in my building I would smell a rat.
If you are a normally peaceful person and I heard that you were flipping out my reaction would be: "Who pizzed her off?" I would automatically assume that you had been provoked. Especially if the other person in question was either new or had a not so nice reputation.
If you were known for your patience, people will not be so quick to throw that perception out.
Cream rises to the top, just as shlt sinks to the bottom. I doubt very few people would be bothered changing their opinion of you.

I agree as well. Don't feel bad about losing your cool. Look at it this way...now people know that there is only so much you will take and that you will not be treated with disrespect.
