I don't understand.... Sharp Objects May Be Allowed on Planes
I don't understand why they are going to change this now... I felt a little bit safer, being in a small confined space, any kind of weapon seems like a bad idea.
WASHINGTON - Airport security screeners are reportedly going to let passengers bring sharp objects on board airplanes again. Today's Washington Post says the Transportation Security Administration plans to announce security changes Friday. Sources quoted by the paper say the new rules will allow things like scissors in carry-on bags. The reasoning is that such items are no longer regarded as the greatest threat to airline security. Homeland Security Department officials are said to be more concerned about preventing suicide bomb attacks at airports. Officials want screeners to focus more on finding things that can explode rather than things that are sharp.
The Post reports the newly relaxed rules would allow scissors under four inches long tools shorter than seven inches.
TSA spokeswoman says the new initiatives will be positive for both security and customer service.

I agree with you 100%% Sharp objects have no purpose to be on a plane period.
THey even have knitting needles that are not sharp that I see people bringing onboard- those are great
Take a book or magazine people! There is no place for a knife or scissor---- Why can't you wait until you are at your destination to use a scissor

Re: I don't understand.... Sharp Objects May Be Allowed on Planes
I wonder how they detemined scissors were not a threat. Although we were going somewhere a while back and there was a Brookstone near the gates that was selling a manicure set that included that pointy metal nail file. I asked the clerk about selling it since I thought it was a forbidden item and she said it was permitted.
I can see for convenience sake with very few people checking luggage anymore but security shouldn't be sacrificed.

Not that I would ever again get on a plane, however.............
ARE THESE PEOPLE STUPID OR SOMETHING?
Scissors, knitting needles, tweezers, box cutters being allowed back on planes? That's an invitation for trouble.
What is this world coming to?

You know, even if they've decided to allow these items, do they really have to announce it to the world!
Attention Terrorists: You can now bring sharp, potentially dangerous objects onto airplanes. Thank you.
