i feel like a hypocrite
I have rescued dogs my whole life and have preached that everyone should always adopt dogs from shelters (and eventually I will have my own rescue group) but I'm about to buy a dachshund puppy from a breeder. I feel less like an a hole because it's from a very responsible breeder part of the official dachshund club of america, but still. She is 5 months old and has had some issues with her eyes (had to have surgery on the inner eyelids) but she's absolutely gorgeous. Tell me I'm doing a good thing getting that puppy out of the house when she could have a good home with me. Tell me I'm not a jerk :(

I see nothing wrong with buying from a breeder. Assuming they are making sure you spay the dog, they are being responsible breeders. Buying from a reputable breeder is not a bad thing, they are here to make sure that the breed-lines are maintained and the integrity of the breeds are kept to highest standards.

I've always rescued dogs too. I know how you feel. But you can't save them all. You're not doing a bad thing!
You'll keep that little dog and give it a great life ! You know it won't end up in a shelter in 1 year either. I love those dogs, they are soo cute.
Good Luck! Post pics

Your not a jerk!, unfortunately most people who are looking to adopt from a breeder will not adopt him b/c of the eye problem, therefore who knows what the breeder may do. so you are doing a good thing by giving him a loving home.

I don't think there's anything wrong with getting a dog from a reputable breeder. ITA. I think you are also giving a good dog a good home. Most people do not go to breeders and take a special needs dog.

ITA. I have 2 'purebreds' and 2 'mutts'. I volunteer and just submitted a corporation to the NYS Division of Corps to become a not for profit corporation, and I will apply to the IRS for 501C3 status. I don’t feel I am any less of a rescuer because I love purebreds. True, there are 2 spots in my house that are taken up by my purebreds, but I have saved so many others to make up for that.

Re: i feel like a hypocrite
thank you guys so much. my husband was the one that was really making me feel bad! haha. he's a jerk. in the contract with the breeder, it states that i must spay/neuter the dog so thats a good thing. they're part of the dachshund of america club which is the official list i think and all of their dogs are akc. They seem very responsible and was going out of their way to accomodate me. she asked me alot of questions which is good cause that means she rules out the bad ones, and told me that if i wasn't happy with Star (that's what they named her, i'll change that) that she would do her best to find another dachshund that meets my needs. even if she has to recommend me to a different breeder. they sound legit. i'll definetely post pictures when i get her, but here are 2 pictures she sent me. she's gorgeous!!!
she's all of the way to the right
i think this might be one of her sibilings but she looks just like this one

Let me preface this with: I don't think you are a jerk.
I am confused though- why are you feeling she's needing to get out of that house and into a good home if she's coming from a responsible breeder?
If anything, just make sure you don't ever preach again about how adopting from a shelter is the only way to getting a pup.

Re: i feel like a hypocrite
I know she's in good hands there, but she's with a bunch of other puppies and needs her furrever home so that's why I'm saying I'll be "saving" her.
I still strongly believe that everyone should try shelters first. I've been doing that for over a year and I just haven't found any dachshunds. I've found maybe a handful but they either weren't good with other dogs, O'Malley didn't like them, or weren't good with kids. This way I can properly socialize her and she'll be good with EVERYONE!
