I feel like I cant get into any kind of routine..
I have a doctors appt tonight..she needs to check my incision and I am leaving Megan with my mom. I am having a hard time getting myself ready as well as the baby. Its so much to get used to...and I have a very mild baby. I feel like I am failing already, why cant I have a 2 week old ready?? UGH!

Oh ladies, you are in the right place to get advice! I would say that it takes AGES to get a routine down pat, so don't feel the pressure to do that right away!
If you feel that you need to spend the day on the sofa, in your pajamas, eating chocolate and crying...do it! It will make you feel good!
Just give it some time, it honestly gets soooooo much better. I always say that for the first six months, this baby is a screaming ball of flesh that can only answer to instinct...it will get better!!!

It's so good to hear some of your are going through the same things as me. DD is also 2 weeks old today and I just feel so overwhelmed. I know this is just a huge adjusment period and it's so good to hear that it does get easier.
Thanks for shedding some light!

You are recovering from MAJOR surgery and caring for a newborn. Cut yourself some slack. It is okay to need some time to recovery and learn about your new baby.

Re: I feel like I cant get into any kind of routine..
You've just gone through a huge adjustment! I was pretty much crying all day at the point you're at. I also wasted much of my maternity leave staying in since everything seemed like such a "hassle." I think it takes a lot longer than people realize to get used to having a baby. I think you are doing a great job--much more than you give yourself credit for...and getting a 2 week old ready is HARD work!!! Trust me when I say that it does get easier...could be several months, but it will!
Good luck!

I had no routine at all at 2 weeks, let alone 2 months. You're doing great! It takes a while to get used to doing things with a baby and you still have a lot of recovering to do. It will get easier, but it takes some time!

You'll get it together soon. I made it a point to take Ava out everyday, and now we have it down to a science

My DD is 4.5 months old and we have no routine whatsoever. She wakes up each day at a different time and we just wing it from there. I hope we have a routine by the time she has to go to kindergarten!

2+ months here, and no routine
I've mastered getting out of the house, but on the days Al's travelling (he works from home most days), I'm lucky if I get to shower

Re: I feel like I cant get into any kind of routine..
routine?? ha!! at 5 weeks we're nowhere near having a routine. but reading through the posts here makes me feel so much better- I can now appreciate that it is my job, and my only job, to take care of this little baby- through her crying and screaming, spitting up, and completely erratic sleep patterns. This is life with an infant for most of us.
Today we went to the supermarket & spent the afternoon nursing, walking around the house to soothe DD during a screaming episode & napping on the couch together. i kind of feel like a bum some days for lying around in my sweats so much, but that's just the way it is right now.
i joined the holiday fitness challenge here to motivate myself to get out and walk everyday.

I remember in the beginning it felt like such an ordeal to just get out of the house. Now, he goes everywhere with us with no problems. You really adapt quickly, it gets much easier with time.

Re: I feel like I cant get into any kind of routine..
Ahhh yes, the dreaded routine. I still dont really have one. Getting him out of the house is easier, but i still scramble some mornings to get his stuff together in the diaper bag without forgetting anything, all with him screaming in the next room from the separation anxiety that has set it!!! In the beginning i too didnt leave the house much cause it was the dead of winter and honestly it was too much of a hassle with a colicky baby. Once they sleep thru the night (which i'm still waiting for) it will get easier. You will feel more human again. Hang in there sweetie!!! You are not alone...
