I don't wanna! I feel like I have enough stuff tucked away in the freezer (chili, pulled chicken, tomato sauce) as well as frozen veg that there is no real reason for me to go to the store other than the fact that everyone else is.

i feel like i *should* go to the grocery store, but...

Don't do it!!! I ran in the store to grab coffee since my Amazon pantry order likely won't make its scheduled delivery Tuesday due to snow and I was appalled by the insanity and rudeness of people!!! You would have thought it was literally the apocalypse! Use what you have!!!

I imagine a plow will come by by Wednesday. I don’t think you will be snowed in more than a day.
even in the worst snow storms ever we have always been out in a day or 2.
I never understood having to stock up for weeks and weeks In this part of the country.

I live in Brooklyn, so we don't drive on a daily basis anyway. I guess I can understand if you have kids and need to stock up on certain things that you go through quickly (like milk) but how much stuff do people really think they need, even if they are snowed in for a day or two? Most people have some sort of pantry storage, even if it's not immense...

You don't need to go. You have more than enough until you are plowed. Don't go just because everyone else is. It's the sheep thought process like that that causes the stores to look like they do before a storm and causes runs on food that you don't even need.

Exactly.
and especially since you live in Brooklyn and not LI I would say you have even less reason to go.

I went to Home Depot which was insanely packed with people buying every shovel and bag of salt they could grab. Then I went to king kullen and that was a zoo as well. Even the gas stations had lines. It was way over the top

I went to the supermarket today (my regular day, NOT because of the snow) and it was packed at 10am. I couldn't believe it! It sounds like you will have plenty and the roads will be clear Wed morning.

Here is a million dollar question. Do people not have shovels from last year?
Do people throw their shovels out ever year rather than store them for summer?

In fairness, we still have our shovel from last tear, but the underneath piece fell off towards the end of last winter. We've been using it for the light snow, but it makes a super loud scraping noise. So DH did go to Home Depot today to get a new one.

Yes I get that shovels break etc.
it just seems like every time there is a storm a dissproportionate number of shovels are sold. I think someone is stock piling them!!!

I normally would have gone to the store today (I usually go every other week) but with the superbowl next weekend I will need to go to a couple different stores midweek to get all the ingredients I need, so I figured we would eat anything we can from the fridge anyway.

Maybe it's a guy thing. We get a new winter purse. They get a new shovel. I know ours break and DH loses them. Or wants an ergonomic one or some crap. We do still have one from last year though.

i feel like i *should* go to the grocery store, but...

I went about 1 today. Not a shopping cart by the store had to search the parking lot for one. Inside wasn't to bad. Crowded but not out of control. Seems like I went early enough. After the news tonight I'm sure they are going to be even more of a zoo!

Re: i feel like i *should* go to the grocery store, but...

Don't go if you don't have to.
DH and I went this morning to pick up some fresh veggies and fruit, and a piece of beef so I can make pot roast on Tuesday. Got milk and some bread, and rice since I was almost out.
Pantry and feeezer are pretty well stocked, so it was just some fill in stuff.

That's what I thought last year, a plow would come in a day. Didn't happen. Days went by! It was beyond ridiculous! We had 3 feet of snow in the road in front of our house. So without a doubt, I stocked up this time!

Same here. No plow for 3 days. It finally came on day 4 after DH called the town to ask if they could please come since I was 8 months pregnant!

I live on a dead end, so the plow would only go to the cross street. I finally went out there after 3 days when I finally SAW the plow coming down, and asked him to plow to the end, we can't get out. It was beyond ridiculous the response I got and the attitude that went with it. The guy was a town worker driving a payloader with a plow and said he couldn't do it. A tiny pick up with a plow on it ended up doing it a couple hours later.

Youre going to be fine, lol. I dont understand the people who make a mad rush to the supermarket like its the end of days. Its going to snow, they are going to plow, we will be back out and about within 48hrs. We are not getting 4 feet of snow in one storm. I get if you need formula, or diapers, or to pick up medication or something. But everyone is going to be fine without bread for a few days.

I would venture to say we could last a week on what's in my fridge and cabinets if need be.
Or my body could survive on my thigh fat alone for at least a week after that! !
