Somehow I ran out of sugar for coffee so we went to the store. There's no surviving without that for me!

Re: i feel like i *should* go to the grocery store, but...
we usually shop on sundays but this was the worst. stop and shop scan it scanners werent working. as we were waiting for the deli -20 numbers to go- the store announced they ran out of bags. so we had to use boxes. i actually really liked using the box. if i was by myself though i wouldnt have been able to lift them .
im planning on going to a store again tomorrow forgot a few things with the madness.

I don't understand why milk & bread fly off the shelves!??! What is the reasoning?!??!? The last thing I want is 5 loaves of bread and 10 gallons of milk while snowed in.
Bring on the chips, dips, hot cocoa, etc..

Re: i feel like i *should* go to the grocery store, but...
I never used to be one of those people that would run to the store for a snow storm, but since having DD I don't want to take chances. I bought an extra container of milk and needed to stock up on some stuff for her. There are parents that were buying diapers and wipes etc... and I don't think there is anything wrong with having extra. I don't want to have to worry this week about running out for anything. When it was just me and DH it was a different story.

I went to Home Depot which was insanely packed with people buying every shovel and bag of salt they could grab. Then I went to king kullen and that was a zoo as well. Even the gas stations had lines. It was way over the top
Here is a million dollar question. Do people not have shovels from last year? Do people throw their shovels out ever year rather than store them for summer?
In fairness, we still have our shovel from last tear, but the underneath piece fell off towards the end of last winter. We've been using it for the light snow, but it makes a super loud scraping noise. So DH did go to Home Depot today to get a new one.
Yes I get that shovels break etc. it just seems like every time there is a storm a dissproportionate number of shovels are sold. I think someone is stock piling them!!!
LOL. My husband said the same thing. We picked up another one today because my son is now old enough to help us shovel. My DH couldn't understand why people were buying multiple shovels.

It amazes me how nobody prepares for winter until the day before a storm. Shovels, salt, etc are all available starting in Sept around here. DH wanted a better shovel this year and picked one up in Oct when there were tons available. We live in the northeast. You are going to need this stuff. Why is everyone surprised when a storm is coming like we live in Florida or something? how about being prepared BEFORE a panic?. It's much easier and more pleasant that way.

Re: i feel like i *should* go to the grocery store, but...
I stopped by this evening to pick up some cold cuts so I'd have an alternative to peanut butter if we lose power but I don't expect to need much more than enough to cover meals for a couple of days at worst. I didn't want to assume I would be able to cook and it sounds like the winds and snow could make grilling a challenge.

I can't be bothered with the crowds. We can survive for longer than a week probably just on what we have in the fridge, freezer & cupboards. If we were to run out of bread or milk, it's not the end of the world, I'll just make something else.

i feel like i *should* go to the grocery store, but...
I live in NJ and I went yesterday morning because I actually needed basics like milk, eggs bread, etc... It was pretty busy but no one was rude or acting insane. This morning I had to run back because I realized I forgot my dd Almond Milk and it was busy but not insane.

Re: i feel like i *should* go to the grocery store, but...
I went to Fairway this morning - mainly because I didn't go this weekend and we needed food for the week. I refused to go yesterday knowing so many people were there. Had no issues finding what I needed this morning - except for some reason, the only thing that was completely sold out at Fairway was steaks, ground turkey, chicken breast and ground beef. Hah.

Re: i feel like i *should* go to the grocery store, but...
I usually go Sundays or Mondays after I drop off my DS at preschool. Just decided to go Sunday since I knew the snow was starting Monday. By the weekend I am usually out of the essentials, but we do keep extra stuff in the extra fridge.
It was insane Sunday, but not too bad. My boys drink their almond milk like it's going out of style! Always need that in the house.
I don't get the shovels though. Everyone should have shovels, but understandable if they break. I get there were times we didn't have bad winters, but we have the last few years. Either that or people are in homes now so didn't have before.
DH is a contractor and also does full house generators. He couldn't believe how many people were returning their generators after Sandy. I think everyone now should have one bc we are losing power way too often when it comes to storms. Got gas for the generator and made sure the cars are filled up. Also for the snow blower.
