I feel so bad... like I traumatized my DS tonight.
My son is SO congested, but SO sick of mommy doing the nasal aspirator on him. But, if I don't, he can't breathe right with his little cold.
He usually doesn't mind it, but I think he was overtired and just wanted nothing to do with it tonight. At first, it was funny that he just kept turning away. But I kept trying and I finally had to hold him down to do it and he was just SCREAMING crying, which just created more congestion, but I just couldn't let him go to sleep not being able to breathe through his nose.
I just feel like I pushed it too much and I hate ending the day like that. I'm watching him sleep on the monitor now so peacefully and I just feel SO bad that our day ended with him in tears. I hate moments like that...
Thanks for listening...

I hear ya. I always feel awful doing that too, but honestly it's better for him to be able to sleep. And he needed that to sleep.
When I said this exact thing to the Ped she told me that there's a difference between congestion from crying that will go away when he falls asleep and congestion from being sick that will sit there all night.
Is there really a difference? I don't know, but it helped make me feel better and I know it helped DD sleep.

Thank you! That helps a lot!
I still don't feel like I got it all... and he keeps waking up coughing, so I know he's still congested. I wish an 8 month old would understand that it's to make him feel better!

If my child was truly traumatized by things like this, he would have already climbed up the clock tower and started shooting at people like a madman at the age of 5. I am sure he forgot it 3 seconds later!!!!

I always feel bad doing that to DS too, but it's better that he can sleep comfortably now and he will never remember this night.

LOL... thanks for the laugh.
I REALLY have to learn to put these moments into perspective or else I'm in for a TON of heartbreak and guilt for no good reason!
I'm the type of person who feels guilty about everything - unreasonably so - so when I see my son's tears and know I "caused" them, it's tears me apart!

My DS cries like we are sucking his brain out....it probably doesn't help the we have the battery powered aspirator. He quiets done right after and forgets about it. If we didn't do it he would not be able to breathe.
