I felt so overwhelmed yesterday..did you ever feel this way?
Does anyone else feel completely overwhelmed with all that is out there for babies?? We went to babies r us yesterday for the first time (for us) and I left in tears. There is just SO MUCH out there. Originally, I was going to register for a couple of things even though I am not having a shower but after going there I realized that I may not even need half the things that are in the store. We live in a small apartment in a house and just to even find a spot to go with everything is just insane.
My mom kept saying, we didnt have all this stuff and you guys turned out fine and in the end, I think she is right. I know there are some things that are lifesavers that they have now that they didnt have back then (i.e. bouncer, swing, etc.) but some of the other stuff is just over the top in my opinion. Did anyone else feel this way?? I think I am going to just take it one step at a time and get things as the baby grows or as I feel I need them. I will start out with the basics of course that are needed and hopefully will survive but just the thoughts of going back there and going through EVERYTHING, is just making me a nervous wreck. Was anyone else like this??

It is very overwhelming. And you never know what is going to work for your baby. We bought and returned things constantly!

YES...I walked out of BBB and BRU as I was so overwhelmed. I bought the basics in the beginning and just bought other stuff as I went along. You will probably get a lot of presents and then you can buy things online if you cannot get to the store. I ordered most of my things online and had no problems.
Dont worry, enjoy your baby and dont get caught up in the whole baby paraphanelia(sp)..a lot of it is the companies overmarketing their products and making us believe that we "need" all this stuff- its like when you get married do you really need the ice sculpture
Good luck - Having a baby is truly the best thing in the whole world....you will spend all your time looking into the face of your beautiful baby and forget about all the stuff on the shelves at BRU.

Re: I felt so overwhelmed yesterday..did you ever feel this way?
We have done without a LOT of the things that other people have...such as pack n plays, full sized swings (we only have the travel swing here -- the full sized is at my FIL's), exersaucer, etc. Emily is quite content playing on the floor with her smaller toys like the learning drum and discovery ball, some stuffed animals and rattles and we have been able to get by without the big stuff so far. Plus I love the fact that she's not cooped up in an exersacuer. It's a pain in the neck sometimes because yo can't just leave the room for a while but I like knowing htat she is free to roll all over the floor and exercise her body.
