I finally got a roomba, I LOVE IT!
I went back & forth on getting it because I heard mixed reviews. I got it at BJs for about $60 less than I had seen it anywhere else. IMO its not a subsitute for a really good, move all the furniture, use all the attachments, weekly vaccum. However I think its awesome for a daily or every other day use to keep the dog hair & whatever my DH brings in on his work shoes under control. Its pretty amazing how 'smart' it is! Just thought I'd share in case anyone is considering it.

I keep vacillating about buying one. My real hesitation is I have only hard wood floors downstairs but I have a number of area rugs and wonder if the roomba can really navigate over the rugs?? Just wondering if you have area rugs and what your experience with them has been??

How good is it with the animal hair? My mom has 2 cats and whenever my kids go over there they come home with cat fur on them (I am allergic to cats). She has a Dyson but we are there almost daily and I can't expect her to vacuum daily. I think it would be a good Christmas present.

I have it too, and I love it. With three long haired cats it does wonders to keep the "tumbleweeds" of hair at bay. Then on the weekend I give the house a really good "move everything" vacuum. It was the best gift we ever got!

Re: I finally got a roomba, I LOVE IT!
My whole house is wood or tile, I have area rugs that is goes right over. It even goes over the bath rug without getting stuck. No problem on the mats in the kitchen either. I have saddles that are kind of high & it navigates those as well. I have one dog that sheds like crazy & a long haired bunny that I let hop around the house sometimes. The roomba is amazing with how much pet hair it finds & picks up. When it finds a spot that's extra dirty it stays in that area longer until its clean. I haven't used any of the fancy programing features yet, but its supposed to have a ton of features. It even talks, it must have found a cap from a bottle somewhere that my dog was chewing on & it sucked it up. It stopped & beeped a bunch of times. When I went over to it I pushed the start button again & a female voice said "please check brushes" I picked it up & turned the main brush & the cap came flying out So far, I'm loving it!

I'm so jealous. I almost got a Roomba over Ebay, but after it broke during transport and I had to fight to get my refund, I started to feel guilty about my purchase and decided against getting another one.

I have one and I really love it. Sometimes we'll have it going when we're doing dishes or other cleaning.
