I forgot the breast shields for my pump at home today!

I am so upset with myself. As if pumping wasn't hard enough, I had to go and forget the stupid pieces at home. It isn't like I can even run out to get new ones since they won't be steralized. I am so upset with myself!!! Chat Icon

Thankfully DH isn't in his office today so he can bring it to me after his meeting but that won't be until 1:00 PM! I might explode before that Chat Icon

I did that once. I just went to Target to get a new one. ........ To be honest, when i was in the hospital and had a visit from the lacation consultant, they didn't sterilize the equipment before giving it to me to use. On that day, I just used it, and washed it well when I got home. Baby was fine........or, if you feel that strongly about sterilizing it first, and can't wait until your dh can bring you yours, you can always pump and dump, so you don't feel full and it doesn't mess with your supply. I know keep one flange in my desk draw. I've also had to pump into a bottle, and dump it into a new emptied water bottle, b/c I forgot caps for the bottles at home. You gotta do, what you gotta do! That is my motto!

Thank you! Unfortunatley, I work downtown manhattan and there are no stores near my office that sell the pieces. If it gets to bad, I can always mannually extract a bit.
Good advice on keeping an extra piece in my office Chat Icon

Also, if you sterilize and then leave things open to air, they are no longer sterile. I say go buy what you need and just wash it with soap and good hot water. As long as your baby isn't a preemie or sick in any way, this should be good enough. I honestly never sterilized after the first week. I just washed good with soap and hot water.

You may want to get yourself a 2nd set of everything. It helps to keep a set n the bag at all times. Get a microwave steam bag and you can use the Meleda wipes to clean your stuff at work.

Re: I forgot the breast shields for my pump at home today!

Thanks for all the good advice!
I do use the wipes, love them! Only thing is that I don't feel it gets really clean because I get get inside the valve and the connector very good. These parts:

That is why I bring it home, so I can wash it really well with soap, hot water, etc. Do you guys somehow clean these parts with the witpes? Maybe I am doing something wrong? Chat Icon
