I guess that explains why I'm always tired...
Just went over the results of my first sleep study.... apparently, I stop breathing about 81 times an hour! My blood oxygen was at 83% (should be around 95%).... I was only in REM sleep about 4% of the time. Should be around 20%
I'm going back next week to do another study with a CPAP machine. I'm glad I'm getting this fixed, but it's scary to hear the actual numbers....

Wow, 81 times an hour!
I'm glad to hear that you are taking steps to get a good night's sleep! Imagine how good it will be for your health and you won't be as tired anymore!

Shawn, my DH had almost the same numbers as you. The CPAP machine has really helped him. I hope it works for you!

I don't know what DH's numbers were, but he had to get a CPAP machine. He doesn't always use it but when he does he wakes up refreshed.

Re: I guess that explains why I'm always tired...
I'm going to read your post to my DH. I have been BEGGING him to go for a sleep study. He snores SO badly. Now with the baby teething and waking up so many times during the night, it's even more stressful to be awoken by his snoring.
Last night, I finally had it and made him go sleep in the den
Please keep us posted on how it goes with the CPAP machine! Best of luck!!

DH had this study and they counted he stopped breathing 121 times per hour. (that's about every 30 seconds) --- He is happily on the CPAP machine for 4 years now. It's a great thing.

I agree that those numbers are scary my DH had quite similar numbers when he did his sleep study about 4 years ago. Now he uses a CPAP machine to sleep and it has made a huge difference for both of us.
Glad you are getting this taken care of!

Where do you go to get this done? My DH snores so loud and I can hear when he stops breathing so I know he has a problem. He is also always so tired.

My GP sent me to the doctor that he works with for apnea cases. I would start with your Primary doctor first.
Some hospitals have a sleep study program. I went to http://sleepsolutionsny.com/

Re: I guess that explains why I'm always tired...
You will LOVE CPAP!!! I sent Joe to a sleep study 2yrs ago and he sleeps awsome now. He slept 3hrs in REM and stopped breathing 147 times. He used to sleep 14-16 hrs a da if he could and was always tired. Now, with CPAP, he sleep s 6-7 hrs and is fully rested! 4hrs gets him though just fine now. I promise.....you will feel like a new person!
