I had a Leap Year Baby
Audrina Lillian was born February 29th, 2008 at 11:44am. Weighing in at a tiny 6lbs. 4oz. and 18.5 inches long. She is perfect for a premature baby!
Thursday was the day I started to feel 'off'. Went to bed early, woke at 1am to pee but then started to feel how I felt with Lauren. Just constantly up peeing (every minute or so), having clustered contractions for about 2 hours or so. Called the dr. at 2:30am, before she called back I started to throw up blood then it started to pour out of my noise. I think I just knew and was getting nervous. So, my neighbor comes to watch Lauren at 3:15am, get to the hospital at 3:30am. Get cheked, I'm the same (3cm) however my contractions are 2-3 minutes apart and starting to get more intense but still bareable at this point.
A couple hours later we still don't know if I am going home or not. Get checked again and the nurse says I am 5-6cm. So calls the midwife. She comes in a bit later and says I am only 4cm.... so decided to admit me anyway and break my water. Well my cervix was still tilted and can you imagine the worst pain ever in your life? Well, no b/c that wasn't the worst to come for me!
Then they move me to a delivery room I get a slow pitocin drip (2) and they pick up major! I was screaming, crying and hyperventilating all at once. I get chekced and now I am at 6-7cm. They proceed to tell me that it will be an hour b4 I get the epidoral I screamed for something in the meantime. I knew I would miss the damn epi! Right after my screaming bloody murder from the contractions that are now every 30 seconds another nurse comes in to inform me I have been bumped to priority since this is my second delivery (all the others were first time moms knowingI would go faster) . 20 minutes or maybe less the sweet gentle Dr. comes in to give me the epi. Obviously I was still screaming in pain and he was so gentle and calm trying so patiently to get me going. Somehow from all my yelling, jumping and telling him I'm not ready during my contractions he got me the bolus of the epidural, got me all hooked up as I was feeling her come on down There was no time for the rest of the epi, I was having her. For the first 20 minutes of pushing I felt it all finally as her head was popping out it kicked in and it was sort of smooth sailing... NO tearing, NO episiotomy. My midwife kept saying trust me, do it my way and you will walk out of here with nothing! Woohoo and so it was. A beautiful, clean birth. We had 8 people in the room. my midwife, 2 nurses for me, 4 NICU nurses and 1 dr. All seemed to be worried for me and Audrina However, everything went quick and compared to Lauren's recovery from birth, painless!
I am sore in the back from the epi and of course my tummy hurts. Other than that I'm all good and beyond blessed!
She got the hang of nursing beautifully by 5am. Had her at 11:44am and left the hospital today at 2pm. We are home and adjusting just 25 hours after her birth. I hadn't slept the first night at all since I was by my self in the hospital and it was hard taking care of her right after birth. kind of painful So A. got the clearance to go home and then I did. Thankfully we are here and have some adjusting to do. My biggest and only issue with Lauren is that she wants to hold her ALL the time and it gets difficult when I have to nurse her, or DD is changing/burping her. She and WE need to adjust to the 'patience' thing again... In do time.
So that's it in a nutshell
I am beyond in love with her, both my girls. I have no words to describe it, just an overwhelming sense of fullfillment, love and peace.
