I had Brazilian hair straigtening last week.

I just had to say I absolutely love it! My hair is highlighted so JHS was not an option. My stylist had done it and suggested it to me and I decided to go for it last week. Not washing my hair for a few days was rough but I love the end result. I can really wash and blow dry and it is so soft and looks like it was flat ironed. So for anyone thinking about it I definitely recommend it!

Does your hair dry straight and not frizzy on its own or do you have to blow dry it?
I don't have time for the blow drying 99% of the time Chat Icon

I have heard that the brazialian is not wash and go. You still need to either blowdry or flatiron ur hair. one or the other just not both. It just makes ur hair a little easier to manage.

Will try to answer all questions:

You cannot wash your hair for 4 days. I think it depends on where you go/what product they use and can range from 3-4. Just like JHS you cannot put it up, pin it behind your ears, etc.

The process took about 2.5 hours and I have hair past my shoulders.

I def recommend Maximus in Westbury as always. Michelle did this treatment for me. I go to them for cut(Helen)/color(Vanessa) and now will continue to do this when I need it again. I absolutely LOVE just washing it and blow drying and have it not be frizzy and so soft. Seems like blow drying is quicker too but that could be my imagination Chat Icon

My hair definitely still has body and not flat.

Also anyone thinking about it should know that you have to use a shampoo that is sulfate free after the process. I am using Maximus brand sulfate free shampoo. My stylist also recommends Aveda color conserve.

As far as wash and go I am not sure since I have not had a chance to let it air dry. I will give it a try this weekend if I am home for a bit. And yes I am so happy to give my flat iron a rest! HTH!

Re: I had Brazilian hair straigtening last week.

Here is my update! I did the Keratin treatment by Coppola, it ws $350 in NJ it contained .018 percent formaldahyde.......(this is much less than most brazilians and is why it was so much money) I could not wash for 72 hours......from going to 30-45 min blowdrying my hair and then flat ironing it took me 10 minutes to blow dry yesterday! Today was the ultimate test, in and out of my car in the rain and humidity and not one piece of frizz! NOr did my hair start to curl up......usually in the rain I would have a complete afro.....I will try to post pics, however it really doesnt look much different, just much more manageable and easier to style

Re: I had Brazilian hair straigtening last week.

I totally agree with Jackie...it makes my hair so much more manageable and not frizzy at all. I am able to blow dry in 10 minutes. The process at Maximus is $350 and yes the one I did does contain a tiny amount of formaldahyde. A little formaldahyde never hurt anyone Chat Icon

I was turned off by the idea that the process does contain formaldahyde until I did some research and found out a lot of everyday products contain formaldahyde. Here is a small list:

Shampoo: Avon Kids 2-in-1 Super Gentle Shampoo for Normal Hair, Avon, Dove Shampoo, Extra Volume, Unilver, Johnson's Baby Shampoo, Softwash Baby Shampoo, Kissably Baby Soft, Johnson & Johnson

Conditioner:
Avon Kids Super Gentle Conditioner, Detangler, Avon, Dove conditioner, Intense Moisture, Unilever, Nizoral A-D Non-medicated Daily Conditioner, Janssen Pharmaceutica

Hair Gel:
Avon Kids Super Gentle 2-in-1 Soft Styling Gel, all hair types, Avon, Dove Shape & Lift Volumizing Gel, Unilever so multiplicity discipline smoothing gel, Innovative Styling Options

Baby Wipes:
Huggies Natural Care Baby Wipes, Unscented Kimberly-Clark Huggies Newborn Baby Wipes, Fragrance Free, Kimberly-Clark Pampers One-ups, Baby Wipes with Aloe, Alchohol Free, Proctor & Gamble

Vitamins:
Flintstones Children's Complete Multivitamin Chewable Tablets, Bayer; Centrum Kids Complete Vitamins, Chewable Tablets, Wyeth, One-a-Day Kids Scooby-Doo Multivitamin plus Calcium, Chewable Tablets, Bayer

I am not sure chemical wise what the difference is but BHS can be done on color treated hair where JHS cannot. JHS is wash and go BHS is not. I tried it this weekend and after air drying it is not frizzy but not pin straight. Needs the blow dryer to get the flat effect. BHS took 2.5 hours, JHS is longer. Overall I think BHS is not as powerful as JHS.

Re: I had Brazilian hair straigtening last week.

I'd love to do either type but once in a while I love having a day where I try to make my hair really wavy, almost curly. Still, I think that if I had one of these processes I would save myself time and look more polished every day. Gotta think about it!!!!

Ah...gotcha...

Okay, I'm going to stick to JHS b/c the salon I go to has me in and out in three hours! I definitely want pin straight hair.

Thanks lovey!Chat Icon

just to let everyone know, JHS CAN be done in color treated hair. i used to get it done while i had color in my hair and i know that shopaholic and krwm does it with color in their hair.

JHS, you can walk out of the shower, without drying your hair and it will be pin straight. my hair is actually still wet from this morning and it's drying like it would if i flat ironed it.

I know the BHS has a lot more chemicals in it. i know this has formaldahyde in it and JHS does not! my girl won't do the BHS anymore cause the chemicals are too strong for her but from what i hear, like the above posts, people are loving it! it's definitely cheaper then the JHS!!!

Re: I had Brazilian hair straigtening last week.

I have a question - WHAT happens when your hair starts to grow in ?? Do you have to go for touch ups every month or so?

My hair is REALLY really curly and starts at the root .............I don't think I'd ever have JHS or BHS done b/c it's just not my thing, but I'm still so curious about what you do when it starts to grow ???

I know with BHS it essentially washes out of your hair across 3 or 4 months and gradually returns to normal. But I'm curious too about JHS as the only reason I wouldnt look into it is the fact that trying to straighten just my roots seems like a disaster? my hair grows super fast and I'd be worried that i'd be a hot mess
