I had my 20 week sono yesterday
Hey ladies,
I had my 20 week sono yesterday. It was a regular sono just longer then the 12 week one..... My Dr. doesn't send you for the Level 2 or a 3d one unless there is a problem with this one... My question is should I request the level 2?
He did say everything looks great

Re: I had my 20 week sono yesterday
i thought the level II was the 20 week sono? it was just a normal sonogram that is longer where they go over the baby from head to toe and check EVERY little thing. i know the 3ds and the 4ds are different though.
ETA - my office doesnt even offer the 3ds - i would have to pay and go to a special place but it is not required.

Re: I had my 20 week sono yesterday
That was what my Dr said, if I wanted the 3d I would have to pay out of pocket... Many other people have told me you CAN see everything on a Level 2.. My Dr said last night that it was a 20 week but a Level 1 sono.. I am soo confused

Re: I had my 20 week sono yesterday
thats weird that he is saying it was a level I - i would ask the next time u go. it seems like almost everyone on here as had the level II done and if u really want it then i would totally ask for it.

Re: I had my 20 week sono yesterday
my doc also said the same thing about Level II, they only send you for one when there's a problem bc it involves a little more than a regular sono.

Re: I had my 20 week sono yesterday
I had the same thing happen with me. Are we seeing the same doctor????
I had what they called a "big sono" but they really didnt do much but try and attempt to tell you the sex of the baby and maybe to measure a little bit.
I was defintely not happy with that sono so i got the real Level II done. It made me feel so much better because they check everything.
It all depends on insurance also. My insurance only allows 3 sonograms and any after that have to be approved.

Did your Dr. have to give you a refferal for the Level II? Where is your Dr. located?

Re: I had my 20 week sono yesterday
I don't get a level II unless there is an issue. I'm not worried about it at all. Sure, it would have been nice, but I'm not upset that I don't get one.

Re: I had my 20 week sono yesterday
I thought that a Level II was standard routine..everyone that I know recently prego (believe me,something must be in the water,because...eeeeveryone in my group of friends was/is prego) had the Level II. If its covered by your ins. why not get one? I had no issues prior to the Level II but I sure had piece of mind afterwards..it was so thourough.
I also know of 2 ppl that were prego last year and refused the Level II, they had the same gyno and the gyno made it sound "optional"..well, they both have 2 beautiful children with major issues and complications that would have easily been discovered at the Level II, not that they would have aborted- but they would be better prepared for the devastation.

Re: I had my 20 week sono yesterday
Thanks girls... I just called my insurance company and they will only cover the level II if it is medically necessary..
