I had such a crazy day yesterday....

It started out in the AM when one of my girls got sick all over the meeting area --- and all over herself. We sent her to the nurse, the nurse called Mom, who was HOME but she said she lived too far (About 10 blocks from the school) and she wouldn't come to get her and noone was around to get her. So the poor sick girl had to stay in my room in her dirty clothes all day. This is the same one that I bought tons of clothes for this year for Christmas because she is so neglected. Ugh.

Then at the end of the day I was so excited to give my students their Christmas gifts. I went to Border's and bought each of my kids a book on their level. I didn't even think of having them wait until they got home to open them. So at the end of the day we opened the gifts. It was so horrible. I had 3 boys absolutely flip out because they didn't like the book they got, or, they wanted a book that someone else got. Meanwhile they were on their levels but I tried hard to make sure that they met their interest levels too.

It was so bad that we had to have guidance come and take one of the kids out ---- literally furniture being thrown aroudn the room, screaming, crying, one kid attacked another child and was hitting, kicking him...

I've never seen anything like it in my life! Kids flipping out over the BOOK that I got them for CHRISTMAS! I was SOO upset.

Thank goodness we have a week off now!

I am really sorry you had such a bad experience. You tried so hard with them. They were so ungrateful.

OMG...how horrible. I would NEVER do anything nice for those ungrateful children again.

All I gave my kids is one of the 95cent books from Scholastic- they all got the same one even though they are one different levels- I figured their parents or someone at home could read it to them and they would feel special to have a "big book"

When you get back, you should TOTALLY have a big discussion about thanks and gratitude and how hurt you were. I am a firm believer that kids need to know how their actions impact others

They are so lucky to have someone like you in their lives. I agree that you should talk to them about their behavior, but I fully believe that a good influence like the one you're providing will teach them so much (eventually, at the very least). Enjoy your break -- I think you've earned it.

I feel for that little girl- I have dealt with similar parents and it's disgraceful.

The holidays always get some of these kids so worked us- it can be even more challenging for us!

Enjoy your vacation- you have certainly earned it!

I feel bad for that little girl - KIda like that I just want to take home with me . As for the gifts, well I also teach second grade sped. I bought each kid the Same gift. It saves alot of aggrevation.
