It might be a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyway.

Is caffeine really really bad for you while being pg or ttc?

Re: I have a question about caffeine??

Does this mean we should try and not drink caffenine while ttc? With my first child I didn't really give it up until I found out I was pregnant. I drink maybe one or two cans of soda now and probably won't stop till I get a bfp again.

Re: I have a question about caffeine??

It is going to be real hard for me to quit coffee!! I guess if I stopped drinking soda, I can drop the coffee too.

Re: I have a question about caffeine??

My doctor says I can have up to 3 cups of soda a day, OR 1 cup of coffee.

I weaned myself while I was TTC by doing half-caff, then full decaff. Now I'm off coffee (I can't just have ONE cup a day- so I quit).

I still drink soda though......

Re: I have a question about caffeine??

Frankly I will quit coffee after I am pregnant. I dont drink that much to begin with. I think the other things I will have to give up will be harder - anything that doesnt have natural sweetners (ie Diet Coke). I was never told to stop anything while TTC. Im not a smoker so thats a non-issue.

Re: I have a question about caffeine??

I quit smoking to TTC - for me, that's enough for now. I think I'd be a wreck to give up cigs and caffeine at once. I only have one coffee a day, and for now drink decaf soda, so hopefully it's not too big of an issue.

Re: I have a question about caffeine??

I wanted to add the ONLY reason I began weaning myself while TTC rather than waiting til my BFP is that I had quite a coffee habit.

Being that I get up for work at 4 am, I would have mainlined that stuff directly into my arm if I could.....

Re: I have a question about caffeine??

My doctor told me a the equivalent of a cup (and an actual cup, not the grande Starbucks size) a day is fine while TTC. From what I've read, the main danger with caffeine is miscarriage, so I'll give up the cup once I'm pregnant.

IMO, a small amount each day is probably fine for most people if you do not have a risky pregnancy or a history of miscarriage. I'm no medical professional, but it is only fairly recently that women were told to avoid caffeine.
