I have my 1st pediatric interview today.. (Updated- We Found Our Pediatrician))

and I'm actually nervous!

Anything that I MUST ask?? Any help will be greatly appreciated!


UPDATE:

We just got back and WE FOUND OUR PEDIATRICIAN!!!

We went to see Dr. Roberta Nataloni (she came highly recommended) in Mt. Sinai and LOVED her!! Her office is gorgeous and she was so nice! She has no problems with delaying vaccinations and we seem to be on the same page with that! The extra added bonus is she 3 miles away!!

Don't be nervous, you'll do great!
Here are some questions on my must ask list -

Weekday hours & weekend hours?
How do you schedule babies v.s toddlers appointments?
How many other dr in the practice?
How do we reach you if there's an emergency, and how long do you take to respond?
How many patients do you have?
Views on breastfeeding vs. bottlefeeding?
View on vaccination schedule?

*these are for your observation
Is the clinic clean?
Does it have a sick area and a well area?
How are the staff? (i pay special attention on how they talk to parents/patients on the phone)

I would ask:

what hospitals he/she is affiliated with? which one do they prefer if they are affiliated with more than one and WHY?

What happens when I have the baby do I call you etc - if they are affiliated with the hospital you are delivering at. If not - what happens when do I call you and when do you want to see the baby after we are discharged.

If it is a solo practice - who covers for him/her if they are out of town?

if your child is sick will they see a ped in the office or just a nurse or PA?

Can you call them at anytime if you have questions or your child is sick - do they have a service or does the ped actually answer the phone (I see a solo who answers his own calls in off hours so no service but I know he is always available).

What is their shot schedule? Are they flexible with this if you want? Will they split shots if that is your desire?

Who administers the shots? Nurse? Drs?

How often will your child see them the first year? Once a month? Once every other month etc?

Do they have a sick and well waiting room? If not what is their protocol if your child is sick?

Is there a day they only see sick patients?

What are their office hours?

What is their protocol on giving meds - quick to give them or only when absolutely needed.

Can you call during office hours if you have just a regular question?

Glad you found someone you are comfortable with - you will be spending at lot of time with them the babies 1st year so you need to be comfortable with them!!!! One less thing you have to do now!
