I have never cooked for my SO...What should be the first thing I make for him???
It's pathetic I have NEVER cooked for him and I have no excuse. We live together and I work from home...so I definitely have the time. We have a beautiful kitchen and I think it's time I take advantage of it.
So what should be the first meal I make for him??? He likes everything...just no pork!
Now I am a beginner, so be easy on me...but I want it to be really yummy! I'm doing this tomorrow!

Something easy like spaghetti and meatballs or chicken parm and pasta is a good start. You should go to kraftfoods.com. They seriously have great and easy recipes. When I first moved in with DH and had a kitchen I was on there every day seeing what to make for dinner.
Oh, I also soft tacos... You can just pick up those taco packets at the supermarket and it tell you to brown the meat (I usually do ground chicken) and then add a little water and the seasoning then you chop up lettuce, tomatoes, get shredded cheese and do Make your own tacos.

Mushrooms
Molten (I make these in ramekins from Crate & Barrel - without the raspberries)

Re: I have never cooked for my SO...What should be the first thing I make for him???
Go easy the first few times. Like spaghetti and meatsauce or even a stir fry. Here are my recipes for both (I promise...they're SUPER easy!).
Stir Fry: about 2 cups of minute rice 1 can of oriental baby corn (find it near the asian food section in the supermarket) 1 cup of sliced white mushrooms 1 red bell pepper, diced soy sauce to taste 1/2 lb. of thin sliced chicken breasts
1. Slice chicken into bite size pieces. Place into ziplock bag with some flour, a shake or two of onion powder, and a shake of garlic powder. Shake the bag until chicken is covered with mixture. 2. Pour some olive oil into a skillet. Fry the chicken pieces until lightly browned. 3. Add baby corn, mushrooms, and red pepper. Cook on medium heat for about 10 minutes or until pepper and mushrooms are soft. Meanwhile, make rice in a seperate pot. 3. When rice is done, pour chicken mixture over rice and mix. Serve with soy sauce to taste.
*The whole thing takes about 20 minutes to make. Really simple!*
Meat sauce:
1 28oz. can of tomato puree 1 28oz. can of whole tomatoes 2 6oz. cans of tomato paste about 5 shakes of garlic powder about 5 shakes of pepper 7 leaves of fresh basil 1 lb. chopmeat
1. in a large pot, pour about 2 tblsp olive oil in the bottom. Add tomato puree, both cans of paste, 2 6oz. cans filled with water, garlic powder, pepper, and basil. 2. In blender, puree the whole tomatoes. Add to pot with other ingrediants. 3. In a large skillet, fry chopmeat until brown (about 5 - 8 minutes). There should be NO pink left. Add chopmeat to the sauce. 4. Simmer on low, covered, for about 2 hours. Stir frequently.
Serve with spaghetti and rolls.

OMG! I made the molten cakes and they are dangerously delicious! Holy butter! I only had milk chocolate chips and it worked. Thanks for the recipe--it's a keeper!

honestly, whatever you are MOST comfortable with.
don't try anything too new or too tricky.
maybe you should try this
actually, maybe go simple and easy...not fancy "I'm trying to impress"
my dh LOVES my "Luger" burgers...maybe give these a whirl
Ophelia's famous Luger burgers
1 lb ground beef 1/4-1/2 cup Peter Lugar Steak sauce 1/2-2/3 cup italian style bread crumbs. cheese (fontina, cheddar etc)
mix together until you get proper burger consistency (I also smell the meat to ensure proper seasoning ) form into patties and grill (best) or pan fry (still good) until desired doneness (topping with cheese along the way)
I like to use english muffins instead of buns.
I also make a great onion relish for them
1 sliced onion enough Jack Daniels bbq sauce to cover a dash (or a few) of Jack Daniels whisky.
sautee sliced onions in olive oil until they begin to carmelize (add salt and pepper while cooking)
add in bbq sauce and cook for a few minutes. add in whisky and cook for at least 2 more minutes until alcohol burns off.
serve on top of burgers.
make some home made "fries" by julienning in few potatoes, tossing in olive oil with s & p, and bake at 425 until done, moving around occasionally.
good luck and have fun.

Re: I have never cooked for my SO...What should be the first thing I make for him???
I took the easy way out...skirt steak on the BBQ with roasted potatoes and veggies. I made the skirt steak using a marinade my dad used to love..its the terriyaki glaze...and it was a hit.
Thanks for the recipes. I stored them because you bet I will be using them in the weeks to come
Thanks again girls

Re: I have never cooked for my SO...What should be the first thing I make for him???
buy a very thick boneless sirloin steak. over salt it, and add some pepper
heat broiler for 30mins
broil steak 6 minutes, flip, then broil for 4 minutes. remove from oven, cover with foil and let sit for 5 minutes.
while steak is cooking boil some water. after steak is out, add broccoli to water and cook for 2 minutes- max.
drain and top with salt pepper and butter
buy a box of near east couscous, mushroom flavorerd. cook to directions- takes total of 8 minutes so cook thils while steak is cooking.
if you want, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil to pan and heat on med high heat. add a container of sliced mushrooms and also add 1 tablespoon of butter. add salt and pepper. cook for about 5 minuts until they taste good.
to plate:
put couscous on the top left. slice steak think and arragne slices on top of couscous. pour mushrooms ontop of the steak.put broccoli on the plate.
done and easy!
