I have the choice between delivering at Good Sam or Southside. need opinions

I delivered dd by c section at good sam. I have the choice this time where I want my csection. I loved the care I got at good sam but having to share that tiny tiny room while recovering from a csection was not the most comfortable. Also sharing that bathroom really skeeved me. I heard Southside has single rooms and they were recently redone. I dont want to be selfish with my choice and obviously whats best for baby is more important. Can you tell me about your experience at Southside please.

Southside only has a few private rooms and they cannot be reserved, I think it cost about $250/night. When you check-in you can request it, and see if any are available.
In a double you'd share the bathroom with one other person (I think it's more at good Sam)

I didn't have a c-section, but I had a great experience at Southside. I wound up not getting a roommate even though I was in a double room. They also have private rooms that are extra per night. The nurses were excellent. I had one that stayed in my room an hour and a half in the middle of the night working with me on getting DS to latch.

I loved everything about my experience at Southside. They do have private rooms but you have to pay for them- 3 years ago it was $220 a night- I think it may have gone up to $250 a night now.
Worth every single penny.
I didn't have a C section but recovery from a vaginal is not pretty either and the thought of all that is going on down below- uummmm no way.
There was blood on the floor all the time. Chat Icon At least i knew it was my own!
Not to mention I didn't want anyone's visitors in my room either. And I sent DD back to the nursery every night so I could rest- the last thing I needed was a roomate with a baby rooming in the room and crying all night- would have defeated the purpose.
Nurses were great- all super nice and comforting and helpful.
Nobody stuck their nose in my business about not breastfeeding.
Liked the food too.
If I wasn't one and done, I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Great hosptial- great experience.

ETA- I dont' think the singles were recently redone though. I was just there last month visiting someone in a private room- it looked the same as when I was there. It's not bad at all- it was probably redone about 10 years ago though. Not old by any means- but not brand new.

This is true. I was very happy with my experience at Southside (and I didn't have a private room), but if your only reason for switching is the private room then you should be aware of the cost and that they are not guaranteed. Good luck!

I had the same choice. I was told by my Dr. that the baby care would be better at Good Sam should my baby need special medical attention. That was why I chose Good Sam. I was there for 5 days recovering from my c-section, and I only had a roommate for a few hours after I got in and a few hours before I left.
ETA: I can't speak for all the rooms, but I only had to share the bathroom for the few hours I had a roommate.

I delivered at Good Sam. I would go there again. My experience wasn't great but it wasn't bad either.

I had a c section and was only there for 3 cause I wanted to be home. I don't sleep well in any hospital so I knew I wasn't going to get tons of sleep. I had a shared room the entire time. Don't ever bank on the oh they only double up if they need to theory. You do not know how many people are PG and will go into labor. THe floor was a mad house when I was there. No one got singles.

Yes the shared bathroom sticks but if its dirty have them call cleaning and they will come up and clean it. I always took my shower RIGHT after the cleaning people were in.

Most hospitals strongly push the baby staying with you now so that really won't change based on where you are.

I was also happy that Good Sam has a great NICU cause if something is wrong and they need a NICU stay and they transfer the baby they do not transfer you also.

I do not know about SS as it was not an option for me with #1 but since Plainview changes my Dr now will be at SS also and it might be an option in the future.

I delivered DD at Southside and I had a great experience from L&D to the maternity ward, even the nurses. I requested a private room while in L&D, and yes I had to pay OOP for that but it was worth every penny. DH got to stay with me overnight, even though I told him to go home and sleep, he wanted to stay with us.
If I remember correctly, breakfast and lunch are a buffet style in the hall (excellent choices) and dinner is served in the room to you.
