Take the "I need help" comment any way you see fit Chat Icon

But seriously, no matter how early it is, I am thinking of holiday pictures. I want to play around with doing it on my own with Lucas (eventually we will go to get professional ones done).

Can anyone give me advice (or share pics of their past holiday cards) on how to set him up and how to get the best pictures?

Because of Sarah's severe stranger anxiety we've never gotten a good pic at a professional place. So I've done our own.

The first year I hung a lighted wreath in our bay window, put lighted garland along the shelf part of the window and sat Sarah on a tree skirt in the window.

Last year I sat them on the ground on the tree skirt in front of a holly tree in our yard that still had the red berries.

My SIL actually did something I liked last yearChat Icon

She did one of those cards that you put multiple pictures in on Shutterfly and she picked pictures from the whole year, not holiday shots at all of my neice and it was REALLY cute.

I think I will try to take a picture on my own, last year people did those tree light shots and I liked those A LOT.

If you go to kodakgallery.com, they just put out their holiday cards. They are very nice and you can add multiple pictures on the card. We used them last year and loved them. We will use them again this year.

I already made 7 mockups for our Christmas cards. Ok, I'm glad to hear I am not the only one thinking about it! Chat Icon I did it in Photoshop - I think a lot of people on here use Photoshop Elements.

No tips on the holiday cards just yet, but every year I order photo gift tags from Walmart.com and they are ADORABLE! They are very inexpensive, ready in an hour and DS's teachers and my family love them!

I plan on using Photoshop for my cards & fear that I'm way too obsessed with my cards. I have yet to get a picture I like of my kids but there's always hope.

You're looking for poses? How old will he be then?

I like all the pictures of your kids! Chat Icon

But, I know what you mean. It takes time to find the "perfect" one.

Thanks!

Here was one of mine from last year. The reason it was ONE of them is the other one is a much tamer version of the left corner. DH hated Joseph's post & said it wasn't cool to send out so I replaced the corner photo with a picture of him in a red jacket for the older folks on our list.

Re: I have to admit that I am thinking of holiday cards and need help

we did a "nice" xmas one last year (dd's first!) with pics of her and then pcis of the three of us...but our new yrs one was the super hit.....it was a combo thank you card...since she got so many gifts and I neurotic about sending thank yous, we figured it was easiest and cheapest to send a happy new year card with the "Thank you for thinking of me during my first chrsitmas" imprint on it...accompanied of course with a holiday decorated post it on the back! Chat Icon

here is the link from the pic last year (not the card though, just the pic!)...I don't have time to resize it and reload it...but I can't believe how different she is now!

I did not see this on their website. I love this idea. Do you have a picture you could post? Do you know when this is available.

Last year I dressed my DS in a Santa suit and took pictures of him in front of a black background. This year I think I want to take some kind of wintery picture, maybe all bundled up. It would be great if we got some snow before the holidays! Here's last year's card.

Thanks...everyone...for the ideas (and for making my holiday thoughts seem less crazy so early Chat Icon )

I love all of the ideas and pictures posted...please keep them coming.

Oh and I saw that Barbara asked...Lucas will be 7 months old in December. So I am hoping that as I start to take pictures he will be sitting up so that it's easier on the both of us.

Re: I have to admit that I am thinking of holiday cards and need help

A nice, easy, convenient backdrop is to stack a bunch or wrapped presents. Gives a holiday theme, no extra work (except that you have to wrap the presents before-hand instead of the night before Christmas... Chat Icon Chat Icon ) If you don't want (or have) a bunch of wrapped presents, you can just hang some wrapping paper behind them for the same effect.

Last year, DS was 3, and DD was about 7 months, so she couldn't really sit, so I put her in a box, as though DS was wrapping her up to send to someone as a present... Chat Icon
