Re: I have to ask again... DIY laminate / wood floor
I installed mine. It is an engineered wood - click and lock system. I thought it was very easy to install but you have to be good with a saw and its even more important if you have lots of corners.
Nail down real wood floors are also easy but once again it take saw work and some planning at certain corners for layout.
I have never done glue down but my father did and said it was easy but very messy.
And I have to qualify that fact that I say its easy but I work in construction so projects like installing a floor is a normal thing for me.

We did ours (well DH mostly)....I'd say the hardest thing is using the saw and cutting the angles - my DH did all of that. Same thing for baseboard/shoe molding - cutting the angles can be tricky.
When we weren't cutting boards we were flying through the rooms...using the saw took up time and was messy - tons of sawdust!

DH & I did our floating laminate. DH knows how to use a saw, so I don't know if that made it easier. I helped install and he cut the boards. We did it in 2 days over the weekend. We just took our time and didn't start early in the day.

Re: I have to ask again... DIY laminate / wood floor
DH and I did them ourselves. It was not easy, but it was manageable and we would do it again. The only problem we had was that it was a long strip of flooring that had to be clicked in place at once, maybe 20ft so one end would be in and the other would pop out just a little. You needed someone on both ends to make sure everything popped in evenly. Other than that, it was fine. Hope that helps!

Re: I have to ask again... DIY laminate / wood floor
i think we have about 400 sq ft of flooring to do, and DIY saves a bundle. We are thinking of pre-engineered wood, where you can sand it down one time.
are those the interlocking kind of the tongue and groove, or do they come both ways?
anyone have pics that DIYd?
sorry to be a pain.
Oh! and dh is good with a saw... so i am not worried about that.
do you have to stagger them as well?
