Re: I have to surrender my Cat
I'm sorry you have to surrender your cat. Can you try petfinder before going to a shelter? Most shelters are overcrowded with cats.

What is petfinder? I called 3 shelters...all over crowded. Its so sad that I have to giver her up...but my kids come first...it still sucks and I would never forgive myself if she is put down for not being adopted.

Re: I have to surrender my Cat
I guess trying to re home her is not an option? Maybe you can put a sign up at the animal hospital for now and hopefully someone will want her.. Take a really cute picture and tell your story.. See if they will let you..

Do you have any family members or friends who would be willing to take her? It's so sad that she would be going from a loving home to a cage in a shelter

Re: I have to surrender my Cat
Try posting on Petfinder, Craigslist (make sure to charge a small adoption fee on CL) and even Newsday. Most shelters are always full and are unable to take in new animals willingly. I'm so sorry you have to do this, it must be so hard.

ITA, this is the way to go if you want to be sure where your pet will go and that she will have a home.

Totally agree. Yeah... I know it is hard. But shelters are filled up. Can you try rehoming her, like DILB suggested? Is there a basement you can keep the cat in until yo u find a permanent home?
You can also try doing a courtesy posting , cat stays with you until a new home is found.

I did that when my DH's former employee left us with their cat and never came back
I couldn't keep her- b/c my 2 hated her
by ACT let me post her on their site and she found a home- and great home!

Re: I have to surrender my Cat
Did you try this place? There are wonderful people here and even if they can't take your cat they might have more of an idea of who might be able to. Good Luck!
The Grateful Paw Cat Shelter (in Huntington) is open, TUESDAY through FRIDAY, 12:30 to 4:30 pm, SATURDAY and SUNDAY 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Call 631-757-4517 during those hours.

Re: I have to surrender my Cat
Not sure where you live but Mutts N Butts in Merrick has taken in some animals who need to be adopted (I got a cat from them a few years ago -- what a sweetie!)
Hope that helps!

Thanks for asking. Its been a week sat and she is happy, she is still downstairs and I have bought her some cat nip to keep her entertained.. she is NUTTY over it. I go visit her several times a day to sit with her, she purrs and is very very very affectionate to me. I think she remembers me! (its been a yr since I had her) and Im so happy she is back home and everything so far is working out. Kids are not sick, she is still afraid of dog but with time we can work that out. Thanks for all your support

I am so confused to be honest. Where was your cat for this whole year? I thought you had her in your home and your DD has allergies so you had to surrender her? Then you mentioned the dog and cat getting along in your other thread, and now you mention how it has been a year since you had the cat.

My mother had her for a year. She could no longer care for her so took her back. My kids seem ok so Im going to see how this works out. My DD is over a year now so thats why cat was not in my house.
