I heard baby heart beat...
So i was at work (for those who dont know im an RN) i was wondering if the dopplers we use to hear pulses we cant feel on patients would work to baby heart beat. Well Sure enough it did. It was such an amazing feeling!! it sent thrills through my body and brought tears to my eyes. I called DH and told him to come to hospital so he could hear it but it was 2 am. LOL. They say im only 5 weeks and 5 days is it even possible to hear at this point. maybe im a little further than they said originally. LOL. we shall see on FEB 1st. Now im gonna have to fight to keep hands off the machine. This wont cause damage to my baby will it. oh what a feeling it was. Im gonna sleep good today dreaming about it. Have a great day everyone.

How did you know it was the baby's and not yours? It seems a bit early to hear the baby's. But like you said, maybe you are further.

OK. When I went in last time at 12 weeks the doctor was using the doppler and I heard it and said "Isn't that it" and he said "No that's yours". So you do hear the pulse which is in that lower region. I am not trying to say yours wasn't I was just curious how you knew it was the baby's.

You can hear both your heartbeat and the baby's heartbeat when they use the doppler thing. I can never tell whats what but that is what I was told.

yes, you can hear your pulse and the baby's heartbeat with the doppler but there is no way that a baby's heartbeat is *loud* enough or strong enough to be heard at 5 weeks. most dopplers don't pick up the baby's heartbeat until after week 9 (just ask them women on this board!) what the OP most likely heard was her own pulse.

Re: I heard baby heart beat...
Definitely too early at 5 weeks to hear the HB by doppler. Your pulse is much more audible through your abdominal arteries than your tiny baby's. Unless you're farther along. But you'd have to be at LEAST 9-12 weeks to have it be audible through doppler.
You'll probably SEE the HB on the sono before you get to hear it. Good luck!

Re: I heard baby heart beat...
I think I read that baby's HB is twice as fast as mommy's- so that's how you can tell the difference. The first time my son'd HB was picked up was at around 10 weeks, and I had a hard time differentiating from mine. Don't you have a HB wherever you have blood flow?

Re: I heard baby heart beat...
Baby's heartbeat sounds like galloping horses. Much faster than an adult heartbeat would sound. Did it sound like that?
