I honestly don't know how this is even possible
I've been exercising more than usual this week and my eating has been pretty good. Yet, I gained 4 pounds. I'm sad. Has this situation happened to anyone else?

You're probably gaining muscle...
and, sometimes when you start working out your body holds more water...so drink a lot!!!

Muscle weighs more than fat - so even though you're losing fat, you gain weight.
Please don't go by the scale! I always judged by how I felt and how my clothes fit. But if you need a more definitive measure - you should measure your thighs, hips and waists.

Whenever you work out - especially weight training you will put on muscle. If nothing else, you are filling the muscle with lactic acid in the beginning so don't expect to lose weight. What you need to watch is how your clothes fit or if you take measurements how they change. Muscle weighs a lot more than fat. For example, when I was in my best shape I weighed 150 pounds and was a size 4/6 at 5'9" tall.

Try taking your measurements or fat percentage as an indicator as to how well you are going on your diet. I find it hard to always go by the scale. And as OP mentioned, you should be seeing a difference in how your clothes fit too.
Don't see this as a setback. Keep up the good work!
