I just called Gerber with BPA Q
I saw that all Gerber containers have #7 on the bottom, they told me that all their babyfood containers are bpa free and this # is only for recycle purposes. GO FIGURE I am so confused and little scared .

Re: I just called Gerber with BPA Q
I don't get the hysteria? Is everyone heating up the food IN the containers or re-using them? If not, then it's not an issue.

just dont heat the containers and you will be fine.. i always put them in another bowl...i would just use what you have and then get jars if you feel better about it.

Re: I just called Gerber with BPA Q
I am a little behind here. Now we are to be concerned with baby food containers, too? So far I have only used Earth's Best from the glass jars. I have the plastic cubes for making my own food. Any problem with those?

That is confusing- the number IS for recycling purposes, in order for recycling facilities to know which type of plastic it is. If they have a #7 at the bottom they are made from polycarbonate. According to the article I reference below, 95% of #7 plastics contain BPA, so I guess it's possible there's no BPA in them but I'm not sure if what they told you was right or they're just confused.

Most plastic containers have a number on the bottom, so check the numbers and see if it's a #7. Glass containers for baby food are the best options, maybe you can clean out the jars when you'te done with them and use them for making your own food?
Here is a nice article that explains BPA and some of the places you can find it. They give some suggestions for avoiding BPA as much as possible....
concerned consumers can reduce their exposure by choosing glass containers over plastic and fresh or frozen foods over canned. Some manufacturers produce polycarbonate baby bottles without BPA, Vasil said, and they are often found at health food stores. For people who want to avoid plastic food containers altogether, there are several aluminium, glass and stainless steel options available.

Re: I just called Gerber with BPA Q
Does anyone know for sure if Gerber Clearvue plastic bottles are safe? I found this on Zrecs website, but now I am getting nervous.... http://zrecs.blogspot.com/2007/11/z-report-bpa-gerber.html
I also just realized that my MAM pacifiers are listed as not safe - contain BPA:
http://zrecs.blogspot.com/2008/02/z-report-bpa-mam.html
I have been using them since she was born, so I don't think she will take any other kind. I feel really bad, but I guess I will have top throw them out....

Re: I just called Gerber with BPA Q
ok...maybe it is a recycle code, because I just went to go get the garbage pails outside after the garbagemen left and noticed on the bottom of the garbage pail ....it has that triangle with the #2inside.
Luckily it was a low #, but I dont see myself heating up anything in that thing

Re: I just called Gerber with BPA Q
Well, for all the moms who are concerned about plastic containers, I went back to stop&shop yesterday, returned all the baby food in plastic containers and got jars instead , they didn't ask any questions just took them and exchanged them , I had all the receipts (some were from 2 weeks ago and some from last week) , but they didn't even ask for them . I already FM one mom who wanted to know , but I thought I 'd let everyone else know.
