I just discovered trifles... mmmmm...

I saw something on demand last week where Paula Dean made a pumpkin/gingerbread/whipped cream trifle and thought it looked great for Thanksgiving.

So I went to Foodily.com and found a bunch of recipes, and one that I liked better from Cuisinart that I'm going to try out and change up just a little.

Problem is... I don't have a trifle bowl! Chat Icon DH is going to get food now, hopefully he can find one, so it can be pretty. If not, my presentation will be blah but hopefully it will taste good! More later on that Chat Icon

Here's the recipe:

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Ingredients

1 box Gingerbread Cake Mix and the ingredients to make it (egg and water)
4 cups cold milk
2 boxes (small) butterscotch pudding (instant or cooked)
1 can (15 oz) pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon each of ground ginger, nutmeg and allspice -or- Pumpkin Pie Spice, about 1 teaspoon)
1-2 containers of Cool Whip

..........................

Bake the Gingerbread cake according to the directions on the box and cool completely.

Mix milk and pudding according to the directions on the box and place in fridge for 5 minutes. Stir in pumpkin and spices.

In a large trifle bowl, beginning with the cake, break off small pieces of the cake and line the bottom of the bowl. Then add the pumpkin mixture, followed by a layer of Cool Whip. Repeat layers.

Top with Cool Whip and sprinkle with cake crumbs or add a Vanilla Wafer or Gingersnap cookie for decoration.

LOL...My favorite Thanksgiving Friend's was just one... the one where Rachael makes a trifle...and puts ground beef with peas in it.

Yours looks MUCH better.

I look at it like a huge parfait, and who doesn't like that? Chat Icon

When I realized I had to buy a trifle bowl too, I looked up other recipes to see if it would be worth it. I saw all those fruit and pound cake ones too on Foodily, looks SO good.

Can't wait to give it a whirl.
