I just found 2 amazing new properties in Park Slope...
now, we own a townhouse. 2 beds, 2.5 baths. This is 2 beds, 2 baths in Park Slope. NEW. Granite kitchen, all the goods. DH works and goes to school in the city. The commute is getting really tough for him; been here 3 years. These 2 places are having open houses this weekend and I think it might be fun to check out. The cost is more than we bought for, but not crazy. I don't know. I wonder. If we were to do that, can I do my commute to work, say 3 days in, 2 days home...I wonder if they'd let me. Anyone know anything about Park Slope aside from that it's up and coming? I feel like we should make a scoop! (I think both places are in the same building; both are really nice....)

Re: I just found 2 amazing new properties in Park Slope...
I wouldn't say it's up and coming, more like it's already arrived. It's a really beautiful neighborhood with brownstones. There a bunch of nice restaurants, cute little shops, bars and hangouts....
BUT parking is an UNBELIEVEABLE beyatch. I don't even drive or own a car, and I can tell you that. My friend used to pick me up and drive us there, but finding parking got to be such a hassle, we just take the train. We would see people bumping other cars, trying to make room for their own.

Park Slope is nice my DH grew up there, I had family there and I came from Bensonhurst. I agree, it's not up and coming..it's arrived but it is nice. The people are decent and there are plenty of specialty stores and things to do. It's a nice place to live.. but I agree parking is a pain.. but where in Bklyn and Manhattan can you park easily anyway?

Well...we would need one car, mine. Thanks for the feedback. So...it's really that arrived, huh? I'd heard of Billieburg; I didn't know this was that big. Well, it might be a great idea then. I don't know! I haven't even spoken to Dan. We're meeting for drinks after work; I left him a message about this and we'll talk about it. Thanks!

Three of my friends live/have lived in Park Slope and are in love with it. I've only been there once - SUCH a cute area - good luck checking it out!

Re: I just found 2 amazing new properties in Park Slope...
it's really nice there- I have alot of friends that live in that part of brooklyn
but driving from brooklyn to Setauket is going to take you easily 2 hours each way in traffic if not more, the belt is horrible and the BQE is a complete nightmare
have you considered queens?- where I live has alot of nice places (In bayside) which would be kind of like meeting in the middle?

I think the commute would kill you if you moved to Bklyn.
Isn't there a middle ground somwhere?
Also, if you move there and rent a parking spot in a garage, will anyone with a car be able to visit you?

Re: I just found 2 amazing new properties in Park Slope...
I have friends who live there and love it. I would also suggest checking out my neighborhood - Forest Hills, Queens. It has a great commute to the city and it's right off of the Grand Central Parkway. Forest Hills has mostly apartment buildings (high rises and 6 or 7 story buildings) and not townhouses. However, co-ops are pretty reasonable.

Re: I just found 2 amazing new properties in Park Slope...
Is it really Park Slope? It seems like REAs market half of Brooklyn now as PS. My mom grew up around the corner from the Sander's movie theater (she was on 15th St bet 8th & 9th Ave closer to 9th). After my grandfather passed away my grandmother moved to Kensington (McDonald Ave across from Greenwood Cemetary) and when she sold a few years ago the REAs insisted on listing as PS since it was "in the neighborhood". My grandmother refused to list as such since she felt like it was lying and had a hard time finding a REA who would work with her.

I agree! And I also agree with Blu-ize that I think the commute for you would blow even if its just a few days a week.
Have you thought about Queens at all?

I agree. My family is from Park Slope, and when it started to get really "hot" in the late 80's, the boundaries of the area began to spread to other neighborhoods, according to real estate agents. Now they call parts of Prospect Heights, Windsor Terrace, Sunset Park, and Kensington "Park Slope" but it's not really. A townhouse in PS will be at least 1.5 million, but in the other areas you can get one for a lot less.

Re: I just found 2 amazing new properties in Park Slope...
Park Slope is gorgeous but definitely not up and coming. We live in Clinton Hill and it's cheaper than Park Slope but not by much at this point. I bought a coop over 10 years ago though and my value is up 10X's what I paid.
A few Park Slope co-ops
A few condos in Park Slope
A few Park Slope houses
ETA - these are NOT my listings. Just a site I check often.
