I just had the most horrible interview...long

I actually left, got into my car and starting crying. I don't understand people. At some point they would have had to been in the same boat, right? So why do they go out of their way to make you feel like less of a person??

I got there and a security guard brought me up. I walked into the library....nobody stood to shake hands, to welcome me. I was told to sit down and they would ask the questions. I could ask them questions once they were done.

So the three people, an AP, an administrator and a secretary???? started asking questions. They had a script to follow. I don't think any of them were English teachers at any point because I swear when I spoke about certain books there was no recognition in their faces. They didn't seem interested in my answers. They just started blankly at me while I spoke. They didn't even seem to be listening because at one point they asked the same question twice in a row and only when I pointed it out did they realize it. There was no dialogue, it was basic Q&A.

On top of the AP was rated what I said on a 1-4 scale right in front of me so I was able to see what she thought of my answers then and there.

At the end they asked if I had any questions. I asked them about technology in their school. The answer they gave me had nothing to do with the question.

I felt like they already had their candidate and this was just a formality. So why waste my time???

I have never felt so lost or beaten down as I did when I walked out of that school this morning. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't know how much more I can take.

I know that this probably won't make you feel too much better, but that just goes to show you that it isn't a district you would want to work in anyway!Chat Icon

So sorry! Chat Icon Interviews are the worst. I've been on countless interviews where I get the feeling the position has already been filled. I wish districts didn't do this, it definitely doesn't seem fair or ethical.

i am soooo sorry to hear this!!!!! people can be so inconsdierate. it's nothing to them, but it means the world to you! they should realize that! Chat Icon sounds like a place you might not want to be in if they treat teachers like that!

just curious.... was this a city school or a LI district? in my experience, LI schools tend to be very cold -- it's like they know who they're going to hire anyway... and the city is more animated because they ask you all these questions about standards and testing... the principal wants to know how you're going to cover his azz! sorry this happened to you...

It was a Long Island district. I've been on a lot of interviews the last couple of months and never have I been treated so awful. I alsothink that they already had someone in mind and this was just a formality.

Orginally the interview was supposed to be at 945 and they called yesterday to change it to 1045. I wonder why?? Would it have been better if I had my original time slot? Chat Icon

Look at it this way: you're going to be much, much better off not working there. I feel for the teachers who have to deal with those people on a daily basis. An interview is not only a chance for them to check you out; it's for you to check them out as well, and they failed. Chat Icon

Do you mind if I ask what teaching position you are looking for?

Wow!! That's really rough! I'm sorry you had to endure that--but I have to agree with the other posters--you are lucky NOT to have to work there!!!

I hope something comes along soon!

As another poster said--imagine having to WORK there! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I know it's frustrating, but try to see the bright side of this experience--at least you knew right away that these are people you don't want to work with. You deserve better--and you will find it! Chat Icon

I am so sorry you had to go through that. Interviewing in and of itself is mortifying but the way they treated you was uncalled for. They were extremely unprofessional. You dodged a bullet because if that's the way the AP would act to a stranger, can you imagine the way he/she treats the staff?!
