I just had to share this... Normal to wait 6 months to a year for a quote?!

Maybe I'm a bored-- but this is just insane to me...

I think in about March, April-- MAYBE early May-- I had a company come out to survey my property to redo the black top on our driveway, redo our walk way in front, and repair fixes to other hardscaping in our yard. The guy was here for well over an hour, measuring, etc., the whole bit. Guy said he should have a proposal in less than a week. I never heard a peep from the company. I'm sure I had it on my to do list to follow up, but with a 2 yr old, then I got pregnant- it fell off my radar.

Today I receive an email from the company that says this:
Dear XX:

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for calling us and meeting with us to discuss the work you would like to have done on your property.

At the time of our visit, our work schedule was full and with the coming winter months, we are limited with how much work we can perform prior to the cold weather. So, regretfully, I can’t provide a proposal for your work.

If you would still like to have this work done, possibly next spring, please notify us and I would like to meet you personally over the winter months and discuss your work further so that I can schedule you with priority in the coming spring.

Once again, I thank you for the opportunity and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Signed from the PRESIDENT/FOUNDER of the company.

I responded with this, because I thought it was so ludicrous-- that SIX months later, this is the email I get?! I am not even considering working with them, but the email just p!ssed me off for some reason. They are trying to drum up business, but not following up to someone who even contact them.

This email is very strange as I had had someone out to my house in the SPRING, to give us an estimate. I never heard anything from your company as a follow up despite having someone here for well over an hour. It has probably been almost six months and this is a very strange response-- "thanks but no thanks in your interest in our business". I don't think I would work with a company who handles prospective customers in such a manner.

So, the response I just got back, signed from "Laura", not the founder of the company that said they would personally come to my house is this:
Thank you for your response. The reason why we didnt get back to you is because we got very busy and we are still booked with work all the way till next spring. Our loyal customers are willing to wait for us even 6 months to a year just to get a proposal. If you are not willing to work with us thats fine we have plenty of other people that are willing to.

To me, this is the ABSURD thing I have ever heard of!! People asking them to come out and wait 6 months to even a YEAR, just to find out how much a project costs??!!

Anyway-- I wrote them back one more time again just expressing that I thought it was funny how they are sending out emails to their database trying to drum up business, however apparently have a long list of people waiting a year even to find out how much they will potentially charge them.

Perhaps because I worked in advertising in New Business-- I find their practices to be quite head scratching.

Wow, they have a pair.

I would write them back yet one more time to wish them luck as they probably won't stay in business much longer and to tell them the work will be done by another company who had the good sense and courtesy to be prompt with a quote. After all, why would I use them if I waited 6 months for a quote? Would they even show up and then make me thank them for taking my money?

eta: and to be a loyal customer, you first have to become one and at that rate I'm surprised they have any.

I call Bullsh!t

I don't really think this is a big deal. They probably are very busy and are just sending out courtesy emails.

If they really wanted your business or was fishing for business, they would have offered to do the work now.

I wouldn't call them "having a pair" or anything like that. A lot of times contractors come to a job site and don't want to take the job. This is probably what happened with the OP... they didn't want the job.
