People in my office always put popcorn in the microwave and walk away, didn't realize it could catch fire! How big was the fire?

That happened to an old co-worker of mine. The whole kitchen filled with smoke. We were fanning the smoke from the sprinklers because we were worried they were going to be set off, and then we were running around the office stealing everyone's fans

We had that happen when someone put a plastic bag on top of the toaster oven. The smell of burned plastic was around for weeks.
Everything ok I hope?

Yes. Everyone is okay.
I was chatting with a co-worker in the kitchen and all of a sudden we smelled it.
I raced to the microwave and it was smoking. The bag itself caught on fire as I was throwing it into the sink.
We doused it with water and we doing the fanning thing too.
All I kept thinking was "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't set off the sprinklers."
Now my hair and clothes smell like burnt popcorn.

omg!  Glad you are okay.
In college my roommate did this and the fire department came!! Of course it was the middle of the night after a long night of drinking and apparently it's the law that the FD raise the ladder even though we lived in the basement of a brownstone. Our neighbors loved us for being evacuated.
