There was nothing wrong with the center, exactly, but it made me so sad to see the infants just sitting in their exersaucers all by themselves while other infants were being fed by the staff. One of the boys was way too tall to use the exersaucer anymore and his knees were bent.

My head knows that there is no way each child can get personal attention every second, but it just broke my heart thinking of my little Ryan sitting in the corner all by himself, not being able to crawl or walk around with his walker like he does at home.

If all of the places are like this I don't think I'll be able to take it. Chat Icon

I had the *exact* same experience when I visited a daycare center while my son was a newborn. I went home, cried my heart out to my DH and 6 years later, I'm still a SAHM.

Give yourself some time...you will find the *right* care situation for your child....I am sure there are plenty of Mommies here that can offer suggestions/recommendations and support. Hang in there!!!!

honestly, i don't see anything wrong with it. Sure the lil kid shouldn't have been in the exersaucer but i don't see it as being anything terrible. And the staff in the rooms, well there is only soo much that can go around. So this is how they are able to safely feed some kids and entertain others. I think that you are going to find this at pretty much all daycares.
And them leaving the kids on the mats is for a reason. It is kinda like tummy time and why you will see some kids just laying there. They are trying to promote mobility and movement. I know i personally didn't do enough tummy time and sitting time and they explained to me i had to, to get my DS to start moving on his own. And it really worked. Once i started letting my DS sit on the floor by himself he was up an moving.

Try to have an open mind and ask questions as to why things are being done. There are usually good reasons

Re: I just visited my first day care center and it wasn't good

maybe look into a nanny situation?

the woman who's kid I watch did not like that if he was in daycare he would be with the same people in the same room all day...so she found me Chat Icon

I truck that kid all over town with us.

Keep an open mind and look into what works for you.

Another mom/nanny that I hang out with at the park isn't permitted to drive with her babysitting kid...so everyone has their certain expectations and limitations.

not every center has kids using toys that are inappropriate for their age or size. I looked at many centers before I was comfortable with one.

When I found my daycare centre it was kind of like buying a house, I walked in and I said to myself, I could see myself spending the day here. It was just the right situation for me, I liked the owner/manager a lot, and she had her own three year old in the toddler classroom. Now she is due to have another one anyday and she will have her child in the nursery. I also would say that look for nursery girls that you like, I love the girls at my nursery (we call them nursery nurses, don't know why) I love them, and I love seeing them go all gaga over my son when he comes in and when he goes everyday.

The baby room is set up like a living room in a house, the tweenies room was just like a big playroom with a sofa, and the toddler room was like half makebelieve role playing room and half classroom. Even when I drop Noah off there in the morning (after a year and a half) I could stay and gab with the kids and the nursery nurses all morning...I have to tear myself away.

Keep looking, you will find something that fits you.Chat Icon

ITA

And not all centers keep them in the room all day.
My center takes them for walks and there is a beautiful shaded, fenced in playground for them to play in. They also have sprinklers available on very hot days for the walkers to run through.

Every situation is different.

Some centers are great and some centers are not so great.

Some nannies are fabulous (Janice, you do GREAT things with your son and the kid you watch) and some barely interact with the child they care for.

Some moms are great at SAH and some are better off working outside of the home... doesn't make them a bad mom.

It can be difficult but you WILL fine a good situation for your particular needsChat Icon Chat Icon

I don't see why a baby can not walk or crawl around at daycare. I mean it should be set up so they can. I would definately consider that before making a choice.

Im going to jump in and say ITA.

The center I worked for has no excersaucers, no swings, no walkers in the room.

We had out door time. If not going on a walk, we brought out a huge blanket to the playground with toys, music, and bubbles.

Like other posters said, go in with an open mind.Chat Icon

I had a similar reaction to the 1 daycare I visited (when I was pregnant). Just didn't get the 'vibe' I was hoping for. I didn't go see any others, so I certainly can't say they're all the same way - but in the end, I opted to go the nanny route. It just felt more comfortable for me, and I couldn't be happier with the childcare arrangement we now have.

Good luck. This stuff isn't easy. Chat Icon
