I know I'm not alone -
Saturday DH and I took the car for a car wash after our errand running was completed.
The girl behind the counter saw me, and said "Please..don't sneeze!!!" Took me a minute to figure out why she's telling me not to sneeze I then realize she is trying to be funny and tell me not to go into labor.
She then proceeds to strike up this convo:
Her: So when are you due? Me: July 2nd Her: Oh wow, you're big!! Must be a boy since from behind you wouldn't even know you are pregnant. Me: Yes, actually we are having a boy Her: You sure it isn't twins in there?!
Public Service Announcement: May I have your attention please....
Yes, I am pregnant. Yes, my tummy is large. Yes, we are having a boy. NO I AM NOT HAVING TWINS!!!
Anyone feel my pain?

Re: I know I'm not alone -
Whats scary is you WILL get bigger. Much, MUCH bigger. In my last week, I swear people were looking at me in horror at how huge my belly was. Even I was at myself because I never thought the human body could STRETCH that far......
Take it in stride- most people (especially those without kids) consider a big belly means a big baby and a big baby must mean a healthy baby.......

Re: I know I'm not alone -
yes. i don't know why people think it's funny to ask if i am sure it's not twins. i am only 20 1/2 weeks!! how big am i??
i can honestly say that never in my life have i ever made any comment to a pregnant woman other than to tell her she looks great - WHO first thought it was okay to imply that a pregnant woman was fat??? um, yes, there is a baby in there, along with amniotic fluid, the placenta, and last night's lemon crunch cake. now LEAVE ME ALONE!!

Re: I know I'm not alone -
When I was pregnant someone actually said that to me as well...I was VERY upset over the comment. A few minutes later I found the women (she worked at a hotel) and said to her, "You know you are a very rude person. To make another women feel bad about her body during pregnancy is a really sad and insecure thing for you to do. You might want to keep your mouth shut if you don't have something nice to say." the women was shocked and looked at me and said, "I am so sorry. I didn't even think.." and I said, "Maybe you should think next time." And I walked away. It is awful for someone to say that to you!! HUGS.

OMG - nail on the head right there!
A family member said to me "Wow, you are going to have one B-I-G baby".
It's not even what you say, it's how you say it. First of all, all of measurements have come in right on target. At no point has anyone implied I will have anything more or less than an average baby.
And if I did have a larger baby, why is that such a bad thing? The tone implies its something less than desirable. I will love my miracle regardless.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!
About 4 weeks ago, someone at BRU said to me "Wow, you are ready to have that baby any MINUTE now!". I wanted to punch her. Also, if ONE MORE PERSON asks me if I am ready to pop, I am going to POP them in the NOSE!

Ugh. Totally. Not yet with this pregnancy, but my last one. 3 months before I was even due, people said I looked ready to pop, and if I was sure it wasn't twins.

Re: I know I'm not alone -
People have been asking me since 16wks if I was *sure* there was only one in there since I am "so huge". Then, inevitably, someone else will say how tiny I am
Everyone's perception is skewed...and a lot of people have diarrhea of the mouth. Like the woman who asked (fellow poster) -Lisa- and me if we were "dialating yet". Um, who the eff asks that (outside of your Dr/nurse)?!?

Re: I know I'm not alone -
Same thing happened to me in Lowes. Not once, but twice while DH and I we ordering carpet for the nursery.
Those stupid employees did not know what to do with a crying 34 week pregnant woman, except mumble apologies and walk away.
Poor DH had a lot of damage control to do after that one.

Re: I know I'm not alone -
People talk crap no matter what, I am carrying very small, and when people actually realize I am pregnant and not just chubby, and ask when I am due, they get this shocked expression and ask me if the baby is healthy, and if I am sick

OMG! All the time! I'm due June 9th and people are always asking if I'm having twins! And yes I'm having a boy too. It's so annoying how rude people can be and they think they are being funny. Maybe I'm just too hormonal...

I feel your pain. I have family members doing it and I'm not even that far along yet. My brother keeps saying that and after the 50th time he still thinks his joke is hysterical. Idiot! lol
