I Know I've Asked Before About The Avalon in Melville, But Can Anyone Tell Me About The Avalon in Smithtown? Also Some Commuting From This Area Questions as Well:)
Hi,
There appears to be an approximate $500 price difference for a two bedroom between their Melville location and their Smithtown location.
I work and drive to Queens everyday. I now live in Medford, off of exit 64(and have a HELL commute). Would I also HATE communting from Smithtown and would it take me just as long as Medford since the community is so North? I know this complex is located right where Maureen's Kitchen is and I'd have to take 347 which is hellish, right? Plus I'd want to get to the LIE, not the NSP because I have a Hybrid and drive in the HOV lane. Of course, the Melville location would be so much more condusive but if I can save $500 a month rent I may chose Smithtown over Melville.
PS. I have a two year old daughter so I am thinking of school districts in the future too and although Half Hollow Hills is an amazing district, I know Smithtown is great too and more then fine for my child to attend.
Advise, input, anyone?
PS. Can anyone recommend any wonderful Daycare Centers where the Avalon in Smithtown is or in the area on the way to the highway?

Yes, it would be a commute from Hell! But it is a beautiful complex! I live near Avalon (in Setauket) and took the LIE to my grandma's in Queens today (Elmhurst) and it took 1 hour, 15 mins. with no traffic at all. During rush hour it's an hour 45 mins-2 hours.

omg there's no way i could do that commute. no way!
347 traffic will absolutely be longer than LIE to 64.
there is a daycare center right outside the entrance to the complex, though. i think a tutor time, maybe?

I actually work in the buildings in front of the Smithtown complex. Tutor Time would be super convenient for you as it is immediately on your left after exiting the complex on to 347. I think at the point you are getting on 347, it would not be awful going to work. You can take the NSP to the Sag to the LIE right there. Coming home will be a giant PITA though. I would think you are looking at about at least a 30 minute difference between Melville and Smithtown.

I agree with this post.
I live in Smithtown (near the bull) and commute to Great Neck every day. I jump on the 347 to the Sag to the LIE and it takes me about an hour from door to door. (sometimes 45 minutes, but generally an hour)
Coming home, it takes about an hour and 15 minutes because the LIE does get backed up by 110.
Is the commute hell? sometimes, yes. but I wouldn't change where I live for anything in the world.
HTH.
