I know she should have outgrown these items but how do you
get them adjusted to life without the binky, bottle, bumpers? These are like her little comfort features. We don't give her the binky until bedtime and she usually just falls asleep with it in her hand (not in her mouth). She refuses to use sippy cups, she'll throw them on the floor or hand them off to the dogs. And forget it, we tried to remove the bumpers from her crib this weekend and all she did was cry (until 1:00 a.m.).
There's so many things that she does thats so completely grown up and independant, yet there are things that make her seem like a little baby still. I'm such a confused mommy!

I don't if there is a "right" time to take these things away, but if it makes you feel any better, Nick still has his binky, he refuses a sippy cup, he won't go to sleep without being rocked, he still has his crib bumpers...the list goes on and on!!!

Re: I know she should have outgrown these items but how do you
I haven't tried to remove the bumpers yet but as for the bottle what I did was get sippy cups that have a soft top to them. Marissa doesn't like the hard plastic tops. Also I have some that have a straw and she likes to drink out of those as well but only her juice or water does she drink out of those. These are the soft tops that I got I bought them in Walmart. I can't find a picture of them but they are called nuby and marissa loves them. As far as the binki goes she only takes it to go to sleep so I am not going to take that away from her yet I just took away the bottle and switched her to the sippy cups don't want to do everything all at once

Re: I know she should have outgrown these items but how do you
Molly refused all sippy cups until she was actually 1 year old. I had 5 or 6 different ones in the house- she hated ALL of them until one day the First Years cup become the only thing she wanted. I just removed her bumpers last week and Molly is 20 month old. She never paid attention to them until just now.

Delaney hated the sippy cup at first too. We bought the ones at CVS - I think they are called Nuby. She was off the bottle w/in a week. Try these sippy cups. I can almost guarantee she'll love them.

Re: I know she should have outgrown these items but how do you
I feel the same way.. There are no bumpers in the cribs at both parents and she has the hardest time sleeping. She still uses her binky but i got rid of the bottle as soon as i went to whole milk . I use a differnt cup for milk and a different one for juice/water.. she actually was only gettinga bottle at night and she was not drinking it.. I also can not get rid of her bumpers she is is so mobile in her crib that she bumps her head all night....

Re: I know she should have outgrown these items but how do you
Sharon- You'll know when Amber is ready. Emily loved her sippy cup. She's been off the bottle for just about three weeks. If she didn't like the sippy so much I'd still have her on a bottle. You don't want to stress them out. When they're ready, they're ready. I wouldn't rush about the bumpers. I took Emily's off about a month ago and I hate it. I am seriously thinking about putting them back on. She wakes up screaming some nights when her leg or arm is stuck or if she bumps her head. My girlfriends daughter doesn't like the sippy either. How about the sippy's with a straw? I just bought them for Emily and so did my girlfriend. She told me her daughter loves them but hates the sippy. I just bought really cute ones in Walmart. I give Emily her juice and water in the sippy cup with the straw. Hang in there.

I agree the NUBY cups aregreat thats what I started to use with marissa and she was off the bottle 123 I also use different ones for her juice and water I use ones with a straw.
As far as bumpers she loves them she snuggles next to them and sleeps that way also she moves around alot in her sleep so I am afraid to take the bumpers off in case her foot goes through the bars and she goes to move in her sleep and her foot gets stuck. I can put her in her crib one way go back in 10 minutes she is laying another way and then go back again she is laying another way. As far as the binki goes she only takes it to go to sleep at nite and for her naps thats it other then that she will not take it.

I got the Nuby cup and so far so good. She seems to prefer that over the bottle so maybe the transition won't be as hard as I thought. The bumpers definitely went back on. She kept looking over the side of the crib, like she was on a cliff or something. And like Marissa, you can check on her every other minute and she's in a different position. She's like her father (he reminds me of the hands of a clock while he's sleeping). All over the place. I did put a pillow in with her now because she likes to snuggle against everything. There's this one stuffy that she reaches for before she settles down every night.
