I know summer's still far... but POOL question!
It's OFFICIAL! We're moving back to NY this summer and we'll be living with my parents for a while. They have an in-ground pool and want to know what they need to do to prepare for us.
Do they need to get a certain kind of fence? What kinds of precautions can they take to make the backyard safe for Loey? Does anyone have any recommendations?
Also, I DEFINITELY want to GTG when we come back! There are so many of you that I've been dying to meet!
Oh and here's a picture of my chunky monkey and his best friend just for fun!

OMG! He's sooo cute!!
My in-laws have a inground pool. Haven't thought about the fence b/c it's already around the property. Although my in-laws want to take the dog alarm they put on their dog that goes off if he falls in. Not so sure about that, maybe get a new one. Ugh!
A good pool float with a cover to block the sun. Is it a big backyard? Can they put a fence around the pool that's separate?

Re: I know summer's still far... but POOL question!
when we had a pool growing up, the pool has a separate fence but my brother learned at 1 that he did not go outside in the summer without his life jacket - he would wait at the door till it was put on - i plan on doing the same at my house since we have a pool also
there are also alarms that can be put on exterior doors

Re: I know summer's still far... but POOL question!
I put a pool in 2 years ago.
Some safety regulations they might want to consider, (probably more for when he is a little older)
- self closing gates. If you guys are in the front, someone can't leave the gate open available for him to enter.
- pool alarm. Goes on any sliding glass door with entrance to the pool. It will alert you if the door has been opened. also, alerts you if something over a certain weight has falling into the pool. Not sure if these are two different alarms.
Something I am considering ...safety turtle

By code you have to a fence that separates your back door from the pool. So that the can't walk out the back door and into the pool. It also needs to be a fence that is childproof. And new pools also require a surface alarm which we will be using this summer. It is just a box that sits on the pool edge when not in use. If someone falls in, the wave trips the alarm.

I dont believe you do in Smithtown. In Smithtown you need to have a gate at least four feet but no more than 6, self locking, either around your property or around the pool itself.

It is different for each municipality. I am Upstate in my town, you need a childproof fence around the pool area (even if there is already a fence around the property) as well as an alarm on any doors entering into the pool area.
I think the surface alarm, door alarm and self locking gate would be good ideas for your parents house
