I know that there are a few CT teachers on here...I have a question..

My nephew, although is very bright, is also very talkative. Yesterday his desk was moved into the hallway and he was made to do his work outside of the classroom.

I know that he is no angel, but this teacher is constantly on him. Several conferences have taken place, but the teacher is close to retirement and is grouchy all the time.

I am not sure if this is considered "corporal punishment" in CT. I tried to find this information on the internet with no luck.

What do you think? BTW he is in 2nd grade (7 rs old)

Not a teacher in CT (but some of my closest friends are - I will ask them), but I went to school in CT. I was a very bright student and always had good grades, but very talkative. I too had things like that happen to me. I was always getting in 'trouble' (even though I was a good kid) for talking. Many teachers, especially older ones, do not know how to handle these situations.

I went to a seminar on Servant Leadership by Dr. Ann McGee Cooper two years ago and she spoke about this problem. It was very interesting. Not everyone learns the same way. Not everyone can sit their quietly and listen to a teacher and absorb the information, some need to associate it with sight or sound. Recently I heard a quote by Bill Gates that went something like in this new century in the age of technology our school systems are still based on the 1950s.

Anyway good luck, I hope it works out. In the long run it won't damage him, trust me.

I know it won't damage him, but I don't think he is learning a lesson from being placed in the hallway.

I am a teacher as well, and work with my students on self control every day, almost all day long. I don't think that isolating him from the rest of the class will result in anything productive.

He has already been evaluated from ADHD and he is not ADHD or ADD. He is just very smart, bored, and your average active boy.
