I know we've discussed this before..but toddler beds..
How do you know if they are ready for them?
Amber has been giving me a hard time about sleeping in the crib. Last night, she blew a hissy fit four an hour straight about going into her crib. She only quieted down when I put her in the big bed w/me (and then I couldn't sleep because I was afraid she'd roll off, etc. ) . When she was fully asleep, I tried the ol' move her to her crib routine but she immediately woke up and freaked out. It makes me feel so bad because all she'll do is howl "MAMMMMA-MAAAMMMAA-MAAAAMMMA" for as long as it takes me to cave in and go to her. I was thinking of putting back up the pack n' play in my room and letting her sleep in the playpen portion because she seems to do alright in there if I have to sleep at my parent's, etc. But I'm afraid that is regressing and it will lead to bigger problems down the road. My other fear about putting up the toddler bed is that she'll be running amuck all over the house all night long and will never go to sleep.
I just don't know what to do
Signed,
Sleepy Mommy

Re: I know we've discussed this before..but toddler beds..
Hi Sharon,
I'm having the same issue with James. I'm not ready for him to be out of the crib....but I think that I am going to get a set of guard rails and put them on the bed in my guest room and see how he does.
My sister bought Anthony a full size bed after he literly shook his crib apart....(he is way too strong for a baby) Anthony was almost 2 when he started to sleep in the bed....(but keep in mind that he is behind developmentally...I say this because he is about Amber's age developmentally.) Meladie actually told me that he goes to bed much easier now that he is in a bed.

Thanks girly!! I was thinking of getting the rails and giving it a trial to see how we do. Her crib is one of the covertible ones, so I guess it's worth a try...
Want to get the kids together this weekend or next? How are you doing?

Hello... how are you?
I pust Caiden in his Race Car bed when we climbed out of crib and fell on the floor. He was about 19-20 months old when we did. As far as the running around the house bit, we put a baby gate in his doorway. (Pressure mounted one) Usually he'll sit in his bed calling/crying for me until I get him, sometimes he's standing at the gate calling for me. Also he sometimes gets up and plays with his toys. You can always try the toddler bed. Just baby proof her room really good and use the gate. I got the gate at Kmart for $10.
Good luck!

I don't remember how old she is...but Gabriella went through something similiar around 12-15 months. I cannot remember exactly. We did CIO and she was fine by the second night. Personally, it sounds more like she's going through the typical she doesn't want to be left alone stage more than she can't sleep in the crib anymore.

I dont know if it sounds like shes ready for a toddler bed. To me, when they are climbing out of the crib (or are 3 yrs old LOL) it might be time to move them out. But if you are doing one, IMO you need to put a gate at her bedroom door. Nothing is more frightening than a toddler on the loose in the house while Mom & Dad are asleep.

Re: I know we've discussed this before..but toddler beds..
I had this same problem with marissa I am sure you remember the post about me having to lay in bed with her and wait till she is asleep before I move her in her crib then she would wake in the middle of the nighte and n ot go back to sleep unless I p ut her in my bed but if I let her sleep in my bed she would sleep all nite
well I transformed her crib into the bed and I was afraid she was too young she is 15 months and I thoguth she would climb over the bed rail but she sleeps in it all nite I have to put her to bed in her bed and I stay there until she falls a sleep and she sleeps in it a ll nite and I was shocked that she doesn't get out of the bed she calls for me or dh to take her out and we hear her loud and clear through the monitors
hope that helps

Re: I know we've discussed this before..but toddler beds..
We plan on buying our daughter a toddler bed within the next month or two. We are going to leave the crib in her room and the toddler bed and see how she likes the bed. If it takes a while, her crib is still there. We also plan on taking her to pick out the toddler bed she likes. We are going to put a gate up in the doorway of her room to keep her from roaming around the house. We already use gates in the rooms sometimes.
