I know you're not supposed to compare but...

I just can't help it! I know that Luca was really advance with physical stuff, but I can't help feeling like Mason is seriously lacking in that area. I was just looking at pictures of Luca when he was 6 months and he was full on sitting on (needed no help or balancing) and even pulling up to standing on his own. Mason has no interest in sitting up. In fact, he gets mad when we prop him up or put him in the Bumbo- though we keep trying despite his protest. He's very happy to lounge in a swing or bouncer. Even in the high chair (he loves eating) he likes to be in the reclined position. His opposition to sitting up is getting me a teensy bit concerned.

Re: I know you're not supsed to compare but...

Maybe it's a Mason thing b/c my Mason didn't start sitting on his own till after 7 months, but shorty after he was crawling Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't have another child, but I do compare Mason to other's his age. Nothing wrong with it as long as you know no matter what he'll get there. Early, on time or late they all reach their goals Chat Icon

Re: I know you're not supposed to compare but...

I went thru the same things with my boys but it was the opposite

My older one was lacking in gross motor skills but i had NOTHNG to compare it to

Looking back I should have at least looked into EI but I knew nothing about it

if it makes u feel better the boys are great now....i just have a nagging feeling I should have done something for my older one

At what point did you feel like you should have looked into EI? I don't think Mason is too delayed just yet, but if he doesn't start sitting up on his own soon, I may start to worry a bit more.

Re: I know you're not supposed to compare but...

Looking back and mind you this was 2007, DS#1 was not standing up in the crib, crawling or walking when ALL of his peers in daycare were

he walked at 18 months!!

So, I think i could have started to look into it at the 9 month range???

But like I said my ped told me not to worry and he did start doing things....just later than everyone else

I wouldn't worry about the sitting up yet. Mention to your Ped at the next visit. Like I said... I was concerned about Mason as well. He didn't sit up till 7.5 months, but around 7 months he was at least trying. Before that he wanted nothing to do with it. Then he crawled shortly after so he did one thing late and one thing early. My Ped said by 8 months he should be sitting up on his own

Ok good, then he has another 2 months to work on it before I will worry. Luca was sitting up with a little help at 4 months and by this point was able to sit up on his won for long periods of time and play. He was also crawling at 6 months.
