I made a GREAT playdough recipe today if anyone wants it...
I do not trust giving Ava store bought playdough because it's made in China, and well, I'm neurotic about that, so I made a recipe today that has been my favorite so far. I colored it with food coloring and it feels better than the real stuff.
1/2 cup salt
1 cup flour
1Tbsp. cream of tartar
1 Tbsp. oil
1 cup water
Heat over medium heat until it's a good playdough consistency and cool in the fridge.
I added the food coloring right before Ava played with it. No stains on the hands or anything.

Sounds great! When did you start playdough with Ava? I have no idea what age to start it. My DD is 16 months but still puts everything in her mouth.

I started playdough around a year. She still was putting stuff in her mouth, but one taste of it and she realized it was better not to. Also, if you make your own and she does eat it, it's no big deal because you know exactly what went into it.

They make this at DS's preschool, I love it. Feels and smells better than the real Play-Doh. I made it once as part of little activity packs I gave to the kids who attended DS2's Christening.

I think this is the recipe I used to use for my preschoolers.
Here's another tip-you can also color it with those little kool-aid packs (the kind where you still have to add sugar, not the mix). It colors it and makes it scented too!

Also for gluten free....you just add rice flour in place of regular flour. My son has a classmate in his preschool class who cannot have gluten due to allergy and I found a recipe for the little guy, same recipe just add rice flour instead. They sell it at whole foods.

Mine lasted for a long time. Probably over a month. I put in a tupperware container in the fridge.

I've had mine for at least 3 months and it's still fresh. We play with it a couple of times a week. I jut leave it out on the counter in a tupperware.
