I need a GREAT baby shower gift....
A dear friend of mine is having a little  . I really don't like anything on her registery. She registered for a lot of little things and I don't want to seem "cheap". So, I need some other options.
Any ideas? Baby does not have a name as of yet and the shower is in two weeks.

one of my favorites was a Mommy basket!
It had a bottle of wine, a GC to my hair salon, dunkin donuts gc, nail polish, breast pads, the medela post-partum support belt, and a few other "mommy" pamper gifts.

Here's one of the BEST handmade things i've ever seeeeen on here:
Rachel (prncsslehcar, God i hope i spelled that right) made it for her sister, and it had bibs, onesies and socks all rolled up to form a topiary; you could have the pot match her bedding for the too!!!!

One of my best friends got a huge baby basket that I am going to use for the changing table and filled it with all sorts of clothes, socks, hats, even shoes and booties ranging from 3-12 months-I loved it!

With some awesome help from Rachel, I have made a few of these for gifts. I actually have one for a girl and one for a boy, just waiting for homes. I had so much fun making the ones I gave as gifts, I couldn't stop. FM if you want details

i LOVED my boppy lounger...seriously - i even got another so that we could leave one at the sitter's and one with us....
it was so helpful!!!! maybe that and a few other things???

If she has a BRU near her than she can use a gift certificate at her nearest location for pictures.
I always try to go with a theme. One time i did a "travel" theme...with everything they might need in the car to see Grandma...travel bottle warmer, food storage, cd's, baby keys etc....

im sorry to come across rude but she registered for certian things that she wants/needs - why would u want to buy off her registery. Whether u like the stuff on her registery or not its what she likes. Im saying this speaking from exp.. i have my husbands side of the family who NEVER go off a registery (wedding/baby) and it irritates the heck out of me bc i either wind up having to return them or stuck wiht something i really dont want.
if they are small things, perhaps u can make a basket of all the little things.
sorry if i came across rude - dont mean to - just speaking from my own exp and registeries

Does she have no big ticket items at all on her registry?
I received this huge diaper cake with tons of things in it like bibs, pacifiers, toys, etc. It was so large and elaborate. It was handmade and I thought it was very thoughtful.
I would try to stay with her registry if at all possible. You need all those little things.
Packaging and appearance make all the difference. Even if you got some of the cheaper items off the registry, you could probably add items (gift certificate to a spa, books, CDs, albums) and make a really nice shower gift.

What about a clothesline? I did that for my SIL's baby shower. Link to pictures

We are doing the clothesline already! Got that covered.
The big ticket items are gone! Her dh husband's family lives OOS so because they aren't coming, they bought the bigger items.
I am going to try and make the topiary (I have a few crafty bones in me!)

A prenatal massage gift certificate
My friend got a basket of all babys first christmas things.
Red envelope had a set of frames that said first smile, first tooth etc
A gift certificate to picture people if there is one in yonkers
A baby bracelet.

Ditto. You could do some of the other suggestions too, and maybe make a coupon type thing for a night of babysitting when baby arrives.

I loved getting the handmade things - baby blankets, mostly, even if they weren't made by the gift giver. I probably wouldn't have bought them myself, but used them lots and love them.
There's also a big "oooohhh" reaction when you open these at the shower

I like thoughtful and creative gifts.
I made a very dear friend of mine a baby essentials basket as part of her gift. It had all stuff you need but forget to put on a registry. I put Mylicon, Aquaphor, Tylenol, Motrin, Teething tablets, Gripe Water, Cloth diapers for burp clothes, Nasal Aspirator, Saline Spray, Nail clippers, Baby Emery boards, A poopy bag holder with extra bags, Butt Paste and Thermometer.
I made her a diaper cake with three different size diapers one for each tier.
A friend of mine made me a mommy basket with some wine, chocolate and some bath stuff.
I recieved giftcards for some local restaurants. It was great because we would order takeout for dinner and use the giftcards.
DH's aunt made us a clothsline with outfits in all different sizes up to one year.
