I need a makeup makeover!!!

Ugh.. I am frustrated with my lack of makeup skills/knowledge. LOL.

I buy random products at CVS and target and basically it isnt working anymore. I miss looking nice and I think I need a change!

Anyyywaayyy, where is the best place to go to get advice? If I go to like Macys, I am stuck with one brand, right?

What about places like Sephora or Ulta?

TIA

I love Mac make-up and have gone there for a makeover. You don't have to always use their makeup, but I mainly use their foundation and eyeliner. For other things I'll go to CVS b/c makeup can get pricey

Re: I need a makeup makeover!!!

i wear a good mix of make-ups but mac is a good place for a make-over.

if you do a makeover @ mac - the makeover is free if you purchase $50 worth of merchandise. (which is not hard)

stick w/ what you like from mac and than supplement other items from cvs/target

Re: I need a makeup makeover!!!

I just went to Macy's over the weekend and MAC has this thing where its a box set of a certain look. They give you a face chart of what the colors are and what they are used for and include two eye shadows, blush/bronzer, mascara and lipstick. I got one called "suductress" and it was $60 and I LOVE it! I have so much makeup and I always end up using the same things everyday. This shook things up a bit.

Re: I need a makeup makeover!!!

I have makeup spilling out of every drawer in my house, but I believe all you really need are these:

A good tinted moisturizer (I use Neutrogena)
A good foundation (I use Laura gellar)
A good powder (I use Clinique)

Nars O rgasm blush (I have the stick and the powder)

Bronzer (I only use Smashbox, son't know about other brands)

A neutral palate of eyeshadow (cream or powder--I prefer Nars cream--any brand)
Stila Kitten eyeshadow is very nice for day or night

An eyelid primer

Black eyeliner. I have everything from creme, liquid, pencils, powders and every brand from Chanel to Wet n Wild. I am currently loving Clinique Timeliner

Black mascara (Any brand)

I am also really into eyebrow powder as of late. It really polishes the face.

I think drugstore makeup is just fine. I have wasted so much money in Sephora and department stores on makeup that didn't work for me.

Good luck and have fun!

Re: I need a makeup makeover!!!

I am a makeup fanatic, i prefer chanel, and have good relationships with the SA's at my most dept stores.
They are constantly having events where they do makeovers, and u dont have to have a minimum purchase.

I have used many brands and nothing compares to their line, their foundations and concealers are amazing, I have all their brushes and they are great too!

Re: I need a makeup makeover!!!

I am going to jump on the Mac wagon here Chat Icon I love their makeup.... I am sort of obsessed. I would suggest going there and asking them questions about putting together a pretty fall look. That's basically how I got started.

I love Mac for most things except their foundation, which works well for MANY so u should try it... just not for me. For that, I use Make Up For Ever (Sephora) .... and I also don't care for their lipsticks. For that, I prefer Chanel (the Rouge Allure lipsticks... they're creamy and moisturizing with a good amount of pigment!)

Good luck!

Re: I need a makeup makeover!!!

Go to sephora. Tell them that you need help and they will ask you questions about what you like and help you find something that works. I've done this at Ulta too.

I ended up going with BareMinerals because I wanted something that I could layer coverage but I didn't want to feel it on my skin. I went through a lot of "I don't think I like that" products and we moved onto something else.

Good luck!

I would try Sephora, Mac or the Bare Minerals store.

I don't think the people at Ulta are the most knowledgeable.

Re: I need a makeup makeover!!!

I am a little frighten of the MAC store. I have never been to one or a MAC counter before & they opend one in Grand Central that I pass everyday, and the employess are all SO overdone.

I get that they are showing off the make up, but I'd be a afraid to get a makeover there & look like I am clubbing 24/7.

Sephora is good if you want variety.

For a department store, you can look around & see what the reps are wearing since they all wear the make up they sell.

Before my Sephora obsession I used to go to Estee Lauder for a more natural look & because I liked the foundation color options for my paleness.

I always wear drug store eyeliner & ususally mascara, so I can replace it often.

This is a great base! In addition to all of this, I would suggest a good set of brushes. MAC sometimes sells mini-sets of their brushes at a discount. I have used my MAC brushes for years without a problem.

I am now dying to try Chanel foundation... I have used both MAC and Bare Minerals for years now, and am looking for something new. Hmmmm.

Re: I need a makeup makeover!!!

i love MAC. Yes you are then using only one brand but they can tell you what colors and ow to apply makeup. And then after you get used to it for awhile, you can start to go other places and buy new things.
