I need a "WOW THEM" dessert receipe for xmas!
I was thinking of making a Buche de Noel as a xmas dessert, but I don't know if that will dazzle my family enough. I want something that's relatively easy, but unbelieveably good!!
last year I made these really yummy choc chip cheesecake bars, but I need something that's going to visually wow them..lol My cousin made a ginger bread VILLAGE.. and it looks incredible!! I need to save face!!!
Any ideas? Pics are welcomed too!
For those of you who don't know, a Buche de Noel is french for a xmas log.. here's a pic.. it's kinda ugly...

Pavlova's Pavlova
"To serve, cover with whipped cream and decorate with fruit. This is a very traditional Australian dessert. Enjoy!! "
INGREDIENTS 4 egg whites 1 1/8 cups white sugar 1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 tablespoon cornstarch
DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Beat egg whites and sugar in a large, clean bowl with electric mixer until stiff peaks form. In separate bowl, mix together vinegar, vanilla and cornstarch until smooth. Pour cornstarch mixture into egg white mixture and beat until thick and glossy, 4 minutes. Cover a baking sheet in parchment paper and draw an 8 inch (20 centimeter) circle in the center. Spoon or pipe mixture inside the circle, to within a little less than an inch (2 centimeters) from the edge. Place in preheated oven, reduce temperature to 200 degrees F (100 degrees C), and bake 1 hour. Turn oven off and leave Pavlova to cool inside. Decorate cooled Pavlova with whipped cream and fruit to serve.

Buche de Noel is a great idea. DH and I got WOWs for this. We made the Martha Stewart recipe Dec 2003. Martha Stewart Walnut Orange Buche
This project took us 2 days. Big, big project. We made the Tuile Cookies, Acorns, and Meringue Mushrooms, too.Meringue Mushrooms
I scanned some pages. If you want me to type up some of the info for you, let me know.

If you want to make a trifle, I have a great recipe for a Tiramisu Trifle. It definitely has a WOW factor.

Re: I need a "WOW THEM" dessert receipe for xmas!
I forget who but someone posted this in the summer. I made it and it was TREMENDOUS!!! I would def have vanilla ice cream to serve w/ it but it was so good by itself. My SIL had a bunch of her upscale manhattan friends over and they were all so impressed!!! And honestly, it couldn't be easier to make! I believe both King Kullen and Waldbaums carry the peanut butter that it calls for. I know King Kullen def. does.
Chocolate-Peanut Butter Flourless Cake
Flourless chocolate cake is one of those desserts everybody loves to order at restaurants but seems too hard to prepare at home. Surprise!--this is really one of the easiest things in the world to bake, and a very impressive final course to serve to guests.
Ingredients: 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter 2 cups Dark Chocolate Dreams™ peanut butter 1 bag (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips 8 large eggs
Vanilla ice cream, for serving
Directions: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Butter the bottom and sides of a 10-inch round cake pan. Dust the pan with flour and tap out excess. Make a double boiler by filling a medium-sized saucepan halfway with water and placing a large glass bowl on top of the pan. Bring the water to a boil and add the butter and peanut butter to the bowl. Mix until well incorporated and turn off the heat. Add the chocolate chips and stir until the chocolate is completely melted. Transfer the mixture to a fresh bowl. In a separate large bowl, use an electric mixer to whisk the eggs for 3 to 5 minutes, until their volume doubles. Fold one third of the whipped eggs into the chocolate-peanut butter mixture and gradually add the rest of the eggs until the mixture is well-combined. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 15 to 20 minutes. The center of the cake will be soft and gooey. Serve immediately with vanilla ice cream. From The Peanut Butter & Co. Cookbook, by Lee Zalben (Quirk Books). Available at www.ilovepeanutbutter.com and at fine booksellers everywhere!

I wish I knew but I'm not sure. I would think you could make it ahead of time and maybe just throw it in the oven w/ foil over it to warm it up w/o overcooking it.
