I need advice (IVF related)
so after a 3rd IUI I went in to speak to Dr B. I make good eggs, DH sperm is good, tubes are open, etc. Turns out it is secondary infertility from endo. Dr B thinks that its b/c of the toxins of the endo that the egg isn't fertilizing. He suggested IVF. He said I am a great candidate for it. Our ins does not cover IVF at all. Everything would be OOP, except possibly the meds. IVF with Dr B is $9250 + $500 for anesthesia. My Dh is all for it but I am being realistic. What if we pay $10k OOP & it doesn't work? I am so intimidated by all the meds I need to take/inject. What are your thoughts? What is involved? when would I start? we are trying a 4th iui this month. Please feel free to FM me. I am lost

Re: I need advice (IVF related)
I was a self pay for IVF and we tried EVERYTHING before that. My issue was recurrent pregnancy loss or tubal issues. We'll never know since we treated both. I spent about 30K total, but have twin 2 year old boys.
I think I would wait 90 days. In that time clean up your diet(organic, vegan if you can etc.) do acupuncture. Randine Lewis has an excellent book about this called The Infertility Cure-she also has a website. Look into natural cures for endo. Maybe try one more IUI. If not you will have 4 months to save.
I ate all organic, drank tons of water, did acupuncture-leading up to IVF, also before transfer and after transfer(there are studies that show this increases implantation.) My fsh was a 14.9 on the day my cycle started. But I got pregnant and stayed pregnant and it was all worth it. Hope that helps

Re: I need advice (IVF related)
did dr. b give you odds of getting pregnant without IVF?? i think that would help. if the chances are that its just a matter of time before you get a good egg via IUI, i might stick with that a little longer. is there any way he can change your meds protocol to increase egg quality? or is it fruitless cause of the endo? IMO i would make sure that IVF is the best option before investing the money into it. also make sure you are comfortable moving on to it. mentally it took some getting used to for me, especially because i knew i could get pregnant without it - but ultimately in my situation IVF was a safer route which is why i chose to move on. but since you are paying OOP its very important to be comfortable with this choice.
first make the decision, then worry about the meds later. in the end, yes the meds can seem intimidating. but you are doing what you have to do to get pregnant, which is why its important to be fully comfortable with the choice. it helps you mentally get through the cycle. good luck!

Re: I need advice (IVF related)
I know it is so overwhelming, but honestly the meds really aren't that bad. As far as the cost, I know what you're saying...to do all this and spend all that money and it's not guaranteed!!!!
Since you are a good IVF candidate, more than likely you will have some embryos to freeze. So, just in case it doesn't work, you could do a FET, which is much less expensive (I'd find out the rates now just so you know) and is much easier on the body, since you don't need to be on all those meds to produce eggs.
Good Luck!!!!!

Re: I need advice (IVF related)
I did IVf and paid out of pocket. I used a shared risk program and paid around $20,000 (less if you don't need ICSI). It covered 3 cycled and if none worked you get back 80% of the money. It's a gamble b/c if it works the first time, you pay too much, but it's nice going into it knowing that you already have more tries if the first is not successful.

Re: I need advice (IVF related)
Flowerwife- I had an egg quality test done by Dr B and the quality came back excellent. Its the endo that is making them bad b/c of the toxins.
I am starting acupunture this week and I have faith that it will help with the endo. I am going to give IUIs a few more tries even though DH wants to skip everything & move onto IVF. I dont think he realize what is really involved in the IVF process.
Ladies- I want to thank you for your input, I dont know what I would do w/o your support & advice

Re: I need advice (IVF related)
We paid $20K OOP for 2 failed IVF's. We had 2 more owed to us b/c of the program we selected. However, on the 3rd attempt, I only had 2 follies so we converted to an IUI. After 4.5 years, over 12 medicated IUI's and 2 failed IVF's, that was the cycle that finally resulted in our pregnancy. I sure could have used that money elsewhere, but I had to at least try it so I could say I tried everything in my power to have a family...that was how me justified the cost. Good luck to you!!
