I Need Advice Ladies--Daughter Keeps Bumping Head On My Ceramic Tile
Chloe is 15 MOS...and crawling all over.
She tends to love to be on the floor a lot and loves slipping and sliding She gets all silly and lays down, etc
In the last several days she has fallen back and hit her head on my ceramic floor. Its hard enough to hear it and of course she cries for a bit and then gets over it.
I try keeping her out but in my townhouse the kitchen and living room are attached and its too large of an area to put a gate up.
She never got a BUMP YET, but I am SOOO nervous she will really get hurt eventually! How do I avoid this?
Do your children bump their head often? If so, do they get really hurt??
Thanks for any and all advice!
PS. I thought about a rug but how much cushion would that really give? PSS. I rent to I cannot carpet there:)

Can you get one of the foam letter mats? Also my house the living room and dining room are open, we have a huuuge glass breakfront in the dining room so we don't let her in it, right now we have the superyard XT with an extension enclsoing her in the living room and its big enough for her to crawl in, but once she starts walking there is a huge gate that you can get (it's a soft one) that opens up to really really wide...Msrbk has it and I'll be getting it soon!

Re: I Need Advice Ladies--Daughter Keeps Bumping Head On My Ceramic Tile
DS bumps his head a million times a day it seems like. He's fine...he cries initially but not because he's hurt, it's more a scared, ****** off kind of cry cause the second I pick him up he stops. I usually just try to redirect his attention when he does it and he forgets all about it.

I would either get a small rug or foam mats. You can also get gates that basically section off an area like this

Re: I Need Advice Ladies--Daughter Keeps Bumping Head On My Ceramic Tile
this is the gate I was talking about
gate
and the superyard XT with the extension has been our savior when she's crawling, she literally stays in there with all her toys and has room to crawl, cruise etc...

We have stone tile in our kitchen and had the same problem you're having. We put up one of those playard gates and put the foam letter mats in the playard. That way DS could be in the kitchen with us and had room to roam but wasn't knocking his head on the floor all the time. We only needed it in there for a few months and then his balance and control were better.

Thanks, which gate is this? The thing is, the area I need sectioned off is much BIGGER then this. I wonder what is the BIGGEST gate. I guess I can get the biggest I can find length wise and add as much extensions as possible??

Thanks and good ideas! Do you know the length if the XT? Maybe I can just buy a lot of extensions?
PS. How is the dog situation going? I really feel for you Jen. We are HUGE animal lovers here!

Hey, here is the link to the gate, it says it goes up to openings for 144" which is great bc my opening to my dining room is 132"
gate
not sure how big the x is, hers is propped against the couch so we don't have it fully closed, but its perfect bc I can cook and do things on the first floor while she's crawling in there...
The dog situation is still going on...she's still with us, DH is adamant to find her a good home, I'm too much of a wreck to do anything....and she's being such a mush this week that I literally am crying every two seconds

I looked this gate up. I appears to be the biggest one out there. The other one you have (the XT) is good just not as large?

the XT is more of a playard thing (at least thats the way we're using it....it doesn't have a door function where we could mount it to the wall and go in and out KWIM...we have it in an open octogon propped against the couch so she can't get out (although she has pushed the sides open and put her toys in there to play...but once she starts walking she'll obviously need more room so we're getting that other gate and moutning it against the opening fo the LR and DR....

Re: I Need Advice Ladies--Daughter Keeps Bumping Head On My Ceramic Tile
My DS has a big head and this seemed to throw off his balance until he was about 20 months. If I tell you the falls he has taken....off steps, on to concrete, even out of a shopping cart. Yet he is tough and has never even had a bump for more than 10 minutes. (I also doubt he has pain sensors as he almost never cries from falling)
The only thing I will say is generally it hurts us more than them (after DS fell from the shopping cart I felt like the worst mom ever, I think I was shaken up for DAYS - while DS was fine by the time we got to the Drs office about 15 minutes later!)
And I will say it gets better...we just have to pray alot until they grow out of it (and remove any corners or sharp objects from their area!)
GL
PS the foam letters are great and they are easy to move, clean etc I have them in my playroom although its carpeted its on slab and I like the extra cushion for my accident prone child! (he takes after me I know this!

An area rug might actually help. We have one in our den area and have that foamy-like pad underneath to keep it from moving. It would definately soften the blow.

Re: I Need Advice Ladies--Daughter Keeps Bumping Head On My Ceramic Tile
DD is 10 months old and crawling all over the place too. My whole apartment is tile. She has bumped her head on the floor and on my china closet too. She called a few seconds and then stopped. I know that she is going to fall but as long as she does not get severally hurt then I am ok with her on the tile.
