I need help figuring out how to measure Elecare formula?
This is what the directions say
To make approx
2 fl oz add 2 fl oz of water to 1 unpacked level scoop.
But then on the bottom of the can it says:
To make a larger amount of formula using a standard measuring cup, add 1 unpacked, level cup of powder to 28 fl oz of water. Yields approx. 31 fl oz of formula.
The thing is I dont understand why the ratio is so different.
If I were to use the measurements of doing a single bottle I would use, for example, 24 oz of water to 12 scoops of powder.
If I were to do it as a larger amount of formula then it would be so much more diluted.
Does anyone have any idea which way is right?

I use Neocate, but I think its about the same to measure. I make it by the bottle, but I add the powder to the bottle, then add the water to make it equal to the amount...if I am making 4 oz, I add the powder for 4 oz, then its probably a bit less than 4 oz of water so its 4 oz total...does that make sense? The powder plus the water equals 4 oz total, not powder plus 4 oz water.

I would call the company directly and ask them specifically how do it for a larger amount.
My DD was on Neocate and I had called them just to make sure I was mixing a bottles amount correctly. I never made it in large quantities.

They are both the right way. If you are making one bottle you follow that directive. If you are making a large batch, you follow the other directive. All formula says this on it, not just that particular one.

I've always just made the bottles as I need them. But, a couple times that I had questions, I called the # on the can. They were very helpful, you may want to call them to clarify. Good Luck!

Re: I need help figuring out how to measure Elecare formula?
My DD is on the regular Enfamil, and I just realized I've been making it wrong - according to the Enfamil site. On the back of the can it says 2oz water to 1 scoop. My DD drinks about 30 oz a day, so I've been putting 30 oz of water and 15 scoops of formula. But on their website it said to use 29oz of water + 1 baking cup + 1 scoop of formula... Very confusing...

Right but if you put 30oz of water and 15 scoops you are really making more than 30oz causes each scoop of formula adds like .2oz.
the directions you posted are on how to make exactly 32oz.

I know. It's confusing because I was making a batch by the bottles. For example if I need 8 - 4oz bottles, I've been putting in 32 oz of water and 16 scoops. I didn't know there's a direction to make a batch, also didn't know that the 2oz water + 1 scoop = 2+oz formula. I thought whatever amount of water I put in equals to exact ounces of formula. We just started using powder, so I am learning

Re: I need help figuring out how to measure Elecare formula?
To answer your initial question (which I might not have done before), I think both ways are "right". I would follow the directions on the can for making larger amounts since if you use the 2 oz water to 1 scoop its actually a bit more than 2oz formula that you make...I did find that when I made 30 oz of formula following the directions on the can it was very close to 30oz of formula once it was mixed. I always make sure to just add a bit less water, mix, and make sure that it equals the total amount I wanted, if not, add more water until its at the total amount.

I was just going to say the same thing, I remember when I made the pitcher of formula it said to make it this way. And I *think* the "standard" cup, is 1 cup
