TIA

First, thanks so much for everyones help and advice!
Things the past 2 days have made a huge difference for us over here. The twins have been sleeping from about 8p-6a without waking. I have been writing down everything and things seem to be working themselves out! YEAH. My DS who is cranky, is suddenly the happiest kid in the world! Chat Icon

Re: I need help getting my 5 mo old twins on a schedule.

I wouldn't be able to survive without a schedule because I am so OCD!
We haven't even started solids yet, and won't until 6mo...my babies have reflux and feeding issues, so I don't want to add that to the mix yet.
Anyway, our schedule is:
8:00 wake up, change diapers, get dressed, etc
9:00 feeding (6oz)
10:00 fall asleep while I make bottles, music
11:00-1:00 books, activity mat, toys, practice rolling, et
1:00 feeding (6oz)
1:30-3:30 nap
3:30-5:00 play, reading, walk, etc
5:00 feeding (6oz)
7:00-9:00 hang out with dad, sleep a bit, play
9:00 feeding (6oz)
9:30 bed

Re: I need help getting my 5 mo old twins on a schedule.

my 8 month old boys have a schedule like this. and it works really well !

7am- wakeup , 8oz bottle
8:30- oatmeal
9am- nap
11am- 8oz bottle
12:30- fruits
1pm- nap
3pm- 80z bottle
4:30- dinner/solids
5pm- cat nap
7pm- last 8 oz bottle
8pm- bedtime!

the first thing i did to start a routine was to establish bedtime. then figured out the rest from there!
its so much easier to have a routine. i would go crazy if i didnt

Thanks for the help.

My twins I know would do much better with a schedule. I am finding it so hard to establish one. Between them and the 2 year old.

I am going to use these as guides and work hard this week. Thanks!!

Re: I need help getting my 5 mo old twins on a schedule.

i have a 3 yo DS that i never really put on a set schedule. while it worked for us, i realized it would have been much easier had he had a schedule. with the twins i made sure that i would start them on a schedule and make sure to keep it...with 2 i cant imagine now having one. it makes life so much easier.
here is their 6 month schedule:
7-8 am (they wake a different times): 6 oz bottle
9:30 - cereal/fruit
10:30 - short nap (about 30-45 min)
12:00 - 6 oz bottle
12:30 - long nap (1.5 hrs)
2:30 - yogurt/fruit
5:00 - 6 oz bottle
5:30 - short nap (30 min)
6:00 - cereal/veggie
7:00 - bath
8:00 - 4-6 oz bottle
8:30 - bedtime

I agree with the PP...i think starting a solids schedule is easiest once you establish a set bedtime.

GOOD LUCK!

you guys are so lucky your kids sleep so long at night. My boys usually go down around 10 and are up at 5..ugh. How do I extend that?

My one boy always wakes up once at night as well and I have to try and get him back down. usually takes about 30-45 mins of bouncing and rocking.

What are they eating before bed? I started rice cereal for acid reflux and it has helped them last longer at night. They are sleeping 10-11 hours now. They also make an Enfamil formula that is new for nightime to help them stay full longer. I guess that would only work if it's hunger and not something else.
I also find that swaddling them and using a sounds machine right next to the crib helps. We also have room darkening curtains...otherwise they were waking up when the sun came up.

I do use a sound machine. It does help. The problem is one twin is waking up around 2am, and he is really hard to get back to sleep. He can cry and wake the entire neighborhood up! I have such a hard time getting him back down. He throws his paci out of his mouth and is just hard to console.

I feed them 6 oz bottles every 4 hours (5 a day) and 2 meals of cereal and stage 1 fruit or veggie.
Last bottle and usually down around 10 but up at 5 needing to eat. Not to mention up with the one at 2ish.

Ugh, thinking about trying CIO.

Just thought Id pop in and say my twins are almost 5 months and are all over the place too. They are still not sttn. They go to bed around 930-10 and wake around 230-3 to eat then again around 630-7. Both of mine are really hard to get down and cry uncontrollably in my arms when they are going to sleep. Its horrible. I have been debating CIO as well. Figured I would let you know you are not alone! I too feel like everyone elses kids are on good schedules and sttn...then there are my two! haha
Good luck. Let me know if anything works!

Re: I need help getting my 5 mo old twins on a schedule.

My girls were all over the place too..at 5 mnths is when I decided on a schedule...it took about 2-3 weeks till it sunk in....I started with morning nap. It was right after breakfest. They woke up..had a bottle...played for a few minutes ....then breakfest....then clean up and into cribs with a cd on..had room darkening curtains at that time too....changed their diapers and let them be....
When they woke..we got changed into clothes....and played...with a bottle....then at 12 :00 was lunch....immediately after lunch they were changed and back into cribs. This nap at that time lasted till 2 :30-3:00....then we played etc till dinner at like 5 :00=sh....after dinner we played a little...then bathes..and relaxed a bit....then bedtime was 7 ( still is)....the bedtime routine took cio...but it only took 3 days...
